One of my children is a graduate and another is still in school at Fairbanks. I have had wonderful experiences with the staff and administration with both of my children. I found the staff accomodating and competent; many were very willing to offer extra help and to volunteer time to students and organizations, as needed. I found that, for a small, rural school, a variety of extracurricular activities are available. I felt that the administration was open to suggestions as well as criticism and handled most situations in a timely manner. No school system is perfect, but we have been very pleased with our experiences and will never be sorry that we chose to send our children here.
This school has been a tremendous letdown. It doesn't treat individuals as individuals but more as what your last name is. The school does not acknowledge you for whom you are unless you were born as well as raised in the town. The caliber of the teachers are shockingly poor. The school is lacking a lunch system, the only food provided for you to buy is out of vending machines that are frequently out of order. There aren't many extracurricular activities you can participate in, mainly just band and athletics. The middle and high schools aren't separated, so fifth graders are associated with seniors. Overall this school does not attribute any of the advantages that the other local districts do.
This school has a great teacher:student ratio ad also provides many extracurricular activities, Parent involvement is as expected. However, the facilities are a little outdated and the high school and middle school need a lot of work.
It has been a few years since having a child in school. We moved from Columbus, Ohio because the schools were to big and one of our children had special needs. I can not tell you the difference. I have nothing but praise for this school. They worked with my son so well that he went on to college, in education, and his GPA was above 3. They do care for the quality of education and they give a great deal of help and understanding with students and parents.
