I agree with the previous parents that the emphasis in the district is clearly on sports. Although sports are an important part of school, being a student should always come first. The district has made some headway in curriculum in the last several years but still lags behing many school districts. The elementary is a complete mess whereas the high school does have a more professional and focused atmosphere. Some of our children have difficulty when taking standardized testing (i.e. SAT/ACT etc.) even though they are in the top of their class. This would seem to reflect problems with curriculum. And as far as the new buildings--notice which came first--the football field and weight room. Unfortunately, I think this speaks for itself.
I think that our school is excellent! We may have some problems, but every school does. Also, I think that our athletics is the best in the whole county! And if anyone asked, I would reconmend this school!
my children recently transfered to another school district due to a relocation of employment and have now seen how bad this school really is. The focus of this school is not education but athletics and to be honest they are not that good with their sports program, they rely on coaches that coach their kids and could care less about others
I think it's an awesome school, based manely on athletics. Great football program!
This school has now been listed as In Need of Improvement due to the lack of services provided to special needs students. Rather than work with the parents of special needs children, the Nelsonville-York school system assumes an adversarial position. I have two learning disabled children in this school district. I have had to file for two Due Process hearings in able to have even the most basic of services provided to my children. I cannot recommend this school to anyone. Please place your children in a school district where the superintendent and the school staff actually care about the needs and education of children.
