I married into this school district over 20 years ago. My husband is a graduate and I have 3 daughters who are either graduates or attending high school now. My experience as a parent with John Glenn HS and the East Muskingum School District as a whole has been one of mutual respect and cannot say enough about the quality of education my children have received. I love that we are one of the few schools left who are not "pay to play", they offer a full range of musical, art, and agricultural programs including Band, Orchestra, Choir, FFA and many other clubs within the school. The community is so stronly behind our school system, that I can not remember a time when a levy to support our schools and children's education was ever defeated. While other schools struggle w/operating funds and staff needs, EMSD continues to grow.

We had to move a few times and my children had to experience different schools and John Glenn is the BEST ever in my book...Unforunantly we had to move due to the economy and move out of state and I miss this school so much; so much that words cannot describe how I feel......

I am a 2008 graduate and I also have a father who is an educator in the high school. I may be a little bias, but the education that I received from JGHS is top notch. It more than prepared me for the 'real world'. I would recommend it to any parents looking for a school in Muskingum county.

Excellent school system for the special ed classes to the advanced placement classes. I have children who graduated in 1999 and 2001. Both received a superiour education with teachers who cared about them as individuals.

I'm a 1996 graduate and wished I lived in the area still so that my children were able to go through the East Muskingum School District. I have many cherished memories and have great friends from attending school there.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Ohio used the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) to test students in grade 10 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. State averages displayed on public school profiles include public schools only. State averages displayed on private school profiles include private schools only. The OGT is a high school graduation requirement for public schools and chartered private schools. The OGT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Ohio. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

About the tests

Ohio uses the Performance Index to provide an overall indication of how well students perform on its standardized tests each year. The Performance Index scores are based upon how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3 through 8 and 10. Schools and districts earn anywhere from 1.2 points for each student scoring at the advanced level to zero points for each untested student. The Performance Index ranges between 0 and 120, with 100 as the statewide goal for all students.

About the tests

In 2010-2011, the Ohio Department of Education used the Value-Added Measure to show how much growth students made on the Ohio Achievement Test since the last school year. The state expects that student test scores will show an average year's worth of growth compared to test scores from the previous year. Ohio's Value-Added Measure is not the same as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal measure which uses different criteria.
