NKHS is a great small school. I loved the k-12 atomsphere for our kids. Small can be good..the graduation rate and college-bond kids rate close to 100%. The kids have a personal stake in the school and community. They can be involved in as much or as little...but the atomsphere is family and team work..this is why the kids really connect and help one another. The kids are well prepared for college in all the basics. They are program the school does not have..like AP classes, instrumental music, and marching band, football. But they have plenty of other activities...as the high school students mentoring elementry students...being student aids...working in the office. Things that benefit them in life. The community takes great pride in the school, it's upkeep, teachers...sports and concerts. Our kids have graduated...on to college...and were more than prepared.
NKHS has been a great experience for our family. We open-enrolled our son there for his 4 high school years. The teacher-student ratio is great. These students still respect the administration. The students really do their homework and are personally held responsible for assignments. They support each other in class and sports. Our son played a varsity sport there and their grades were a priority with their coach. Talking with staff members has been convenient in person, by phone, and by e-mail. A parent can be involved in supporting their student in their education. We have seen our son grow in many positive ways among a great bunch of peers. Attending NKHS has been the right choice for us.
This is a good and safe school. Teachers are well trained and really care. They are seen around town and at most extracurricular activities. Easy to talk to or to arrange a meeting with. For the most part they are more than willing to help. Safety is not much of a concern. I have 3 children attending classes here. I have no problem drooping them off for school or sporting events. Not only will the staff look out for them, but also parents and older students. Most parents are involved one way or another. In a school this size it is very difficult not to be. A quality education in a safe environment. What more could you want!
