I removed my kids from Newbury schools this year. The school board is completely out of touch with the community! The administration is horrible. The teachers try ...but are frustrated, which make them ineffective teachers. The school population of k-12 has fallen to approx. 550 students. Parents of k-6 graders were sent letters stating the school has again not met AYP and were offered busing to enroll their child in another school district. The facility is rapidly falling apart. Last fall, the school water well went empty. A tanker which continually pumps water into the well is still there. Three weeks ago an electrical fire started in the 5th grade classroom. The state of Ohio needs to take over this district.
Financial trouble - difficulty passing additional levies even though one of lowest tax rates in area. Upper management could be improved, but most teachers are excellent! Extracurriculars have been cut and are poorly funded/attended.
It seems the quality of education at Newbury is slowly going downhill. The current administration does not promote parent or community involvement as it has in the past. It seems they are so concerned with policy, everything else has been set aside. Lately, I have been very dissatisfied with Newbury Schools, and for the first time, am actually looking into other educational options for my children.
Two of my children currently attend Newbury Elementary. My oldest has been there for 6 years. It is an environment where they are encouraged to excel and be themselves in the process. The class sizes allow each child to get individual attention and for the teacher to really get to know each child. All of the teachers that we have encountered have been competent, creative, encouraging and supportive to help each child be the best that he can be and encouraged them to explore areas of interest that they may not have thought of. We are extemely happy with Newbury Elementary School.
in the highschool...they are barely any electives, the track has to be mowed, the extra-cirricular sports are so small that jv kids are on varsity, there is no pool, the vice principle serves as our athletic director and pre-algebra teacher also, the art teacher buys much of the supplies with money from her own pocket, the band teacher is also the chorus teacher, we have no marching band, and lots more!
