As a father of 2 children being raised in Newbury, I am extremely happy with the schools. Since one child graduated in 2009 and the other is in the class of 2012, I cannot comment on the current state of the Elementary School. However, the HS and the district in general is great! By in large, the teaching staff at the HS is wonderful ... and ALL (but 2) of the teachers that my children have had will bend over backwards to help the kids (every district will have bad apples). Newbury is small and does not offer opportunities in advanced classes and sports that the larger districts offer, but the kids are better behaved and get close attention ... especially if you become involved (KEY). Parents complaining need to get real that "Johnny" might be the problem! Work with the teachers ... they will if approached in a friendly manner!
I totally agree that Newbury is a more of a punishing school that a learning school. My son has failed 3 times at newbury and has still not been evaluated for a learning disability. This school is sad. Seniors hanging by a thread of a 1/2 credit course not getting their diploma, but passed all OGT this is pitifull
Though I love Newbury to this day and have since day one, I cannot help but be honest about the ability of the high school to prepare students for the real world. In today's service-driven economy, a high school diploma is devaluing in relation to further education. Being a recent college graduate, I can honestly say that Newbury in no way, shape, or form, prepared me for the rigors of a four year university.
Me and my sister and brothers have all been raised in newbury and we continue to support the school and the students. it is one of the last standing wholesome communities with wonderful caring people and high values. All of us have been very successful. We all agree that our success is significantly due to the well rounded nature we have all fostered from growing up in Newbury. Our teachers remain as some of our best friends and we are happy to see other people of this community due well for themselves.
Newbury has one of the most dedicated groups of teachers and families. The school is one of those small home-town schools still left.
I believe newbury schools are excellent. We have great staff and students. I think the price is very resonable. The only problem i see is our size. We are not consolidated so we dont have many students. It is hard to pull teams together to compete but we do it. We have great school spirit. If you are thinking of bringing your child to newbury i strongly believe you should.
I believe that Newbury is a good school for your student to attend. The teachers care about the students and are willing to help them achieve in many of their goals. Sure there are some who flaws that Newbury my have. Most of it dealing with the financial situation. The biggest problem is getting our community involved with our school. Its hard to have Newbury pass a levy because the community doesn't care about our school. If the community passed more levies, it would provide a better education and help out with many sports. All in all Newbury needs more support, but it is a great school.
Newbury High School may not be the biggest school or the best school, but you will find something here you won't find any where else, the kindest bunch of students and staff anywhere. I recently moved to Newbury and the welcome I got from all the people is unlike anything I ever got at any other school. We may not have all the recourses available to us that the big schools have, but we have a close-nit student body. In Newbury you are not just a number. The teachers know every students name. They know your strengths and weaknesses; they know what is happening in your personal life and help you when you need it.
Newbury high school is horrible. I'm not sure what school the others are talking about, but it is not the same one that my children attend. The school is very poor quality, it is dirty, and things are breaking. Sports coast too much, my daughter is not able to be in sports because of this. There are not enough teachers, only two math teachers for six grades! There is only one art class. My children have had a hard time in school because the teachers do not help what so ever. They punish them instead of help them. Do not send your child to this school; I am taking mine out next year.
I am a parent of 4 Newbury students. I, myself, was raised in private, parochial school for 12 years and was always taught to be fearful of 'Public' schools. Well, that's a bunch of hogwash! Newbury Elementary and High School have the most friendly, conscientious and caring teachers, parents and students I could ask for. I have noticed that the students who really do the best are those whose parents are actively involved in their child's education. In other words, they are at the school for various functions, participating and helping the school in whatever way they can. Newbury schools have many parents involved and that makes a big difference in the atmosphere and the attitude of the children there. I am blessed to have my children at this school.
