North Royalton HS is a decent school with a rivalry of Brecksville-Broadview Heights HS (the place with a decent football team and some money). The hallways are extremely crowded in NRHS, and the office administration decided to stop students from cutting through our huge library as a transportation method (which has resulted in a huge jump of late slips being given out). The lunches are awful, rarely look edible, and often looks like it's going to eat you, rather than you, it. The teachers are decent, although many don't really care except for their paycheck - fair enough, it's a public high school. We got a new principal starting off 2012-2013, but not much has changed. The one thing at NRHS that actually stands out is the band, which has had a 'Superior' rating for years, as they make fifth through eighth grades go through it a band class at the middle school. During 2012, when Hurricane Sandy came along, our roof started falling down - literally. With no money in the budget and our levy failing, we now have ceiling panels missing. This school sends some of its students to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, an outstanding technical school for those who wish to apply to it.

i just started going to this school. It is a very good school. the students and teachers are nice. the 2 only problems i have with the school is they only give 5 mins between classes. i think 10 mins is good. cause my classes is everywhere in the school and my locker is far away and i don't want to worry about being late the other problem is the school is crowded . my counselor is very nice and sweet and willing to help me :) - Victoria Mohammad. well i prefer to be called tori.

uhm the NRHS school is a very good school with very good teachers and staff, they have a great disciplinary system and have recently installed security cameras around the whole school with a buzzer system to get in. over 1400 students that have scored extremely high on the OATS and other tests.

I have had a great experience with the North Royalton high school. My daughter just recently graduated and finds that some of her college classes are actually easier than that of high school. Great faculty! We do need an updated building, though.

I think that north royalton high is a terrible school. It is very overcrowded and there is no level of security, not even any student hall monitors. It disturbs me that anyone could just walk right in. Another aspect of this school that bothers me is the student vocational prep program that they run. In eigth grade before entering high school, teachers and counelors single out low income students and troublemakers and convince them to enter a program where the kids do janitorial services and such and they earn a few dollars a week. This program is supposed to be for AT RISK students but it only discourages them and sets them up for a low income and low quailty future. And convieniently the standarized test scores for these students do not contribute to the average. This is a poorly operated school that doesn't deserve to be posted on this site.

As a student who went to all the schools in the district, I have to say that there is nothing that I can complain about. Many of the teachers are outstanding and the programs that are available are amazing. The music program is one of the best in the area and they compete during marching band and also during regular band during the winter and spring. There are many art classes available and sports are available too. Our Football isn't the greatest around, but the games and students are really fun to be around. THere is Cross country, tennis, golf, lacrosse was there, basketball, volleyball... there are a lot of options. There are many clubs as well. Key club, spanish club, german club, latin club, and environmental clubs as well. There are a great number of parents who help out. WIthout the parent involvement the school would not be the same.

Nrhs is an excellent school. We lived in the city of cleveland for 15 yrs and moved here in 2003. My daughter attended the middle school last yr and the high school this year. She comes from a very middle class background and has had no trouble fitting in there. The staff and students are very friendly and the academics are fair but tough. Couldnt ask for more.

North Royalton to me as a parent is a Fake World. It seems that kids have learned nothing. Yes there is teaching going on but I truly do not see how they teach our kids with respect, when they ask for respect back. The school system has shown me that it's all about looks. You don't talk about the struggles, or the kids who have come from struggling backrounds and have achieved great goals. I also feel that you do not take the time to understand these kids and help them. I really think poorly of North Royalton's school system and I wish that you would not try to look like your the best and act like it when it's really not. But I wish people could see that and know that this is an amazing school instead of a big act having to be put on. Good luck to those kids.

North Royalton High School is one to be proud of it. The teaching staff will accept nothing but the best from our students and continually motivates them to succeed. Their quest for excellence is unmatched. While keeping academics the fortress, NRHS offers many extracurricular activities. The sports programs are well attended and the coaches provided indiviual attention to each athlete. The music programs at the high school are recognized across the state of Ohio as supreme. With a 90% higher education rate, NRHS is the foundation to the future.

About the tests
In 2010-2011 Ohio used the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) to test students in grade 10 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. State averages displayed on public school profiles include public schools only. State averages displayed on private school profiles include private schools only. The OGT is a high school graduation requirement for public schools and chartered private schools. The OGT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Ohio. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

The different student groups are identified by the Ohio Department of Education. If there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group, the state doesn't report data for that group.
Ohio uses the Performance Index to provide an overall indication of how well students perform on its standardized tests each year. The Performance Index scores are based upon how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3 through 8 and 10. Schools and districts earn anywhere from 1.2 points for each student scoring at the advanced level to zero points for each untested student. The Performance Index ranges between 0 and 120, with 100 as the statewide goal for all students.
In 2010-2011, the Ohio Department of Education used the Value-Added Measure to show how much growth students made on the Ohio Achievement Test since the last school year. The state expects that student test scores will show an average year's worth of growth compared to test scores from the previous year. Ohio's Value-Added Measure is not the same as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal measure which uses different criteria.
