I went to McGuffey from Kindergarten through eighth grade -- all nine years. I continue to count having been a student there as one of the greatest blessings in my life. The teachers are all wonderful, caring people, who help students learn for the love of learning, rather than just to get good grades (although the students who graduate from McGuffey consistently perform well above average). If you want your child to develop a very strong intellect, but also to be happy, healthy, and compassionate, then this is the school for you. I continue to maintain fantastic friendships with my old classmates and teachers. After leaving McGuffey, I went to the local public high school (and had a great time there, too), then spent a transformative year working for the Americorps, and am currently attending one of the top universities in the nation. I will soon be joining the United States Marine Corps. I don't think any of this would have happened without my nine years at McGuffey.
It's a place where children don't just become educated, they are nurtured and loved. The teachers become family and the children take a part of the school with them for the rest of their lives.
Teachers are caring, devoted, and go the extra mile to help each individual student progress.
The individual attention to each child creates an environment of trust and growth!
MFS is a wonderful place where learning is celebrated at every level.
We have had many McGuffey Foundation School students come through the doors of our martial arts school. They seem to be very intelligent, polite, well-behaved, and always eager to learn..
It was after leaving McGuffey to move to another state that we fully appreciated how lucky we had been to send our son to this wonderful school. McGuffey gave him a real enthusiasm for learning, thinking, and reading, which is unfortunately being leached away by the standardized test dominated focus his current Blue Ribbon public school. McGuffey really developed his creativity and individuality as well as laying a good foundation for future academic achievement. He is doing very well at his current school (one of the 'best' in this large city) even though he hates it. He was used to working about a grade above where he is now.
McGuffey is a small, tight-knit enviorment where each student can excel at their own rate. There are two grades to a class, and classes usually run 10-15 students. Individuality is supported in this close family of students. Children are taught respect, integrity and to follow their dreams.
