huge dissapointment in comparison to the school my kids were previously in. The pick up and drop off rules are ridiulous, I have kids in 3 different grades and I have to drop each one off in a differnt location and pick each one up in a different location every day. It would make a whole lot more sense to just have one central drop off point for the students. Also the required school supplies is rediculous there is a huge list and it is very specific for each grade and expensive for each student. My kids last school all they needed was a bookbag nothing specific but here if the color of the notebook is wrong they cant use it. just overall disgusted with how this school operates.:( will be moving in a month and this school is the reason
most of the teachers are amazing, but the school is way to crowded!!! not enough individual attention for the children

I graduated from Thoreau Park a few years ago. It was a really good school and I still go and visit some of my old teachers.
Well its almost 2010 and I have had a child in that school for the last 5 yrs..looks like nothing has changed since these reviews, except that 3 more schools in the city where closed and now the schools are more over crowded than previous posts...and the staff has not changed like the other reviews they listen but no one is willing to help solve any problems with teachers or students.
I love this school! I pulled my son out of a private school 2 years ago because I thought he needed some extra attention. Boy was I wrong! The private school was terrible! Since I've put him in Thoreau Park, his reading is better, his grades are up in every subject and he loves going to school. I've been very happy with them so far.
The administrative staff did not work with me and my children. They may have sat and listened, but at the end of the year we were still in the same spot having problems. I even brought our problems to the attention of the school board and nothing was ever resolved. I can not give this school a single star!
I currently have 3 daughters at Thoreau Park, and I must say that I am looking into alternative schools. I feel that the school is too crowded, too much homework is given, and the administrative staff is not willing to work with parents (they will waste your time listening to you, but do as they please anyway). I also am displeased with the school board. The administration is also unwilling to solve problems that parents may have with school staff, yet they keep asking parents to pass levies. Threats of teacher cutbacks and outrageous pay-to-play fees are scare tactics, and our children should not suffer while the school board administration gets richer. Most of the teachers at Thoreau Park are good, however there are some bad apples in the barrel. I would say that Thoreau Park is an average school, but not as good as some in the district.
