My name is katrina Roberts Matthew's. At the time I was in piketon high school, from 1976-1980, it was'nt bad at all. If my home life was better, I think thing's would of been better for me in school. I dearly loved my teacher's, and they liked me to. I really loved home economic's, that was my favorite. My past teacher's, Miss. Matney, Miss. Rapp, Mr. Stockham, Mr. Anderson, as well as the principal, Mr. Allison will always carry a very special place in my heart. Piketon elementary, and piketon High School are the finest school's you could attend. I would just like to express one thing, and I think it's very important. Keeping a close open communication with you children's teacher or teacher's is very important. Parent's letting teacher's know what your goal's and expectation's for your child is as important as your child's education. As well as teacher's informing parent's on all issue's and concern's they have with the student's participation, as well as the student's all around behavior is. I truly believe in all school's parent's and teacher's need to walk hand in hand with the children, actually on a daily basis, whether thing's are going bad or good, stability is the key.

As a student who went to this school, I thought it was a terrible school. The actual education was wonderful. However, education is not the entirety of what makes a school decent or wonderful. It's impossible to not be affected by those around you, and those that were around me were some of the most cruel and vindictive children ever. I only went to Piketon for a brief time, but not once did anyone ever attempt to be my friend. Instead, from day one, I was ridiculed and people would spread awful/untrue rumors about me. No one ever bothered to speak to me in any fashion. I wasn't some freak of nature either, quite the contrary. I went to many schools growing up, and all schools have teasing... but the children at Piketon are far worse than anything I've ever encountered. What makes it even worse, is the fact that all of the instructors and staff turn a blind eye. There's a common theme in the Pike County school system... Don't rock the boat. Well, I liked to, and I would flip the boat over when they refused to punish those who made fun of myself or anyone else. I hated the school, and even as an adult, would NEVER recommend it for anyone to send their children...

Being both a graduate and teacher in this high school (as well as other schools) I can agree and disagree with the other reviews. Going into college I felt like I was fully prepared in the English and Language Arts area. Mrs. Iris Wheeler had me fully prepared in composition and speech. There are a few areas that need improvement. I agree that you can get away with anything if you participate in athletics, especially if you're good. Most teachers are willing to help you if needed, but it seems like there are alot of 'free days' given. As for the problems of rudeness to others, that starts at home before they get to high school. Piketon High doesn't have half of the problems that schools in larger cities do. The 'violence' in this school is nothing compared to elementaries in Columbus. Be lucky your children have a safe educational environment!

My overall experience with Piketon was good. There is a few improvements need to be done. I don't feel I was as prepared for college in the English/Language arts area. Sports has always been an issue. I was in sports so I reaped the benefits. If you were in sports you got away with anything. I had some great teachers at Piketon. Ms. Sally Wheeler SS teacher, Mr. Taylor (RIP) great math teacher, Ms. Ransdell home economics, and Mr. Anderson you were great.

I had 2 children go to Piketon schools,I had no trouble. Now I have three grandchildren going there, the oldest(going in 7th grade),was stuggling. They have tutored him and helped him so much.He doesn't have a 'big last name',so I'm not sure where some people are coming up with that.I think Piketon Schools are the best ones in Pike County.Parents are responsible for getting involved. So stop complaining and get involved.

I used to attend this school, and when I was there I didn't have any problems with getting the help that I needed fromt the teachers or asking questions. This school is not as bad as people make it out to be. Its a little school in a poor place to be. Its not going to big the school that everyone wants to go to when you first see it.

I feel that Piketon High School is a big joke! The principal here does nothing about discipline problems. When I was a student there I had to deal with harrasment issues. I also had to deal with fellow students throwing food at me in the lunch room, while a teacher stood near by and watched and did nothing about it. i had to deal with name calling. When i talked to the principal he told me that he would have teachers watching so this would no longer go on, but do you think that happened? NO! I was constantly humiliated! The only time I was happy was at home with my family. I felt as though i would have a mental breakdown. I then started to have attendance problems and my grades started to slip when previously i was a honor student. I didn't let this stop me. I graduated with honors! Parents do not let this happen to your child!

I am a teacher AND cheerleading coach for the high school cheerleaders. The cheerleaders received $7000 from the board for a trip to Orlando, FL. They also raised almost $29,000 in the past 11 months to pay for their own uniforms, competitions and additional funding for the trip. I am also a teacher in the high school. I do not have problems with students sharing books I have books that are one or two years old. If a teacher wants books they simply need to ask for them. I have not been turned down for educational supplies. I feel fortunate to have a job in this district. We are very lucky compared to most. If you have problems as a 'staff member' OR as a parent you should take them up with administration or find out the 'why's' behind the information you are so quick to complain about.

piketon high school is a BIG joke, they care nothing about academics. it's all about sports. if you go in to complain as a parent suddenly you are the problem. There are a handfull of excellent teachers but that's not a drop in the bucket. My child has been a honor student from the first day of school but is considered a 'NOBODY' because he/she is not consumed with playing sports. They have a very strict dress code that is applied according to last names only. The cheerleaders were just awarded $7,000 by the school board to go to florida but yet we have students who have to share books because there's not enough to go around. what's wrong with that picture? Think long and hard before sending your child to this school, checking the status of your last name wouldn't hurt either!

I would like to say thank you to the 9th and tenth grade Teachers they are wonderful! I do feel that the office staff could get down off their petistol and learn that this community is poor and that they are no better than anyone else, as well our athletic dept. well the boys are huge in being adevertised and they get a huge turn out as well as the high school band playing for their opening , I have a daughter in almost every sport including band these girls do not get the respect the boys do they are not televised nor does the band play for them. And we ask why no answers except the school doesnt pay for the advertisment ok what about the band why cant they play at our home games?I think we are a gender athlet. discriminating school with the girls.
