My neice went to this school for a year and i thought she was doing ok but i was wrong. When she came to live with me I transferred her to the local school and come to find out she was almost a full year behind. I also learned that the teachers were not as helpful as i heard. My neice has a physical disability and she is unable to do certain things but yet the teacher i talked to wanted to blame my neice for her problems. I was also informed that her homework was never completed despite her never having any brought home (physical disability she was unable to put the assignemnts in her bag). After 6 onths being in new school she was caught up and ready to go to next grade (2nd) with the right interventions that SEA never offered her.

I have rated this school before. My child and I had an agonizing Kindergarten year at the school in our district. This school was an answer to prayer. All the kids count here, they All are important. There is no Clique. The teachers have been wonderful at helping the kids with their testing. The educational tools are excellent. They are all encouraged equally. They encourage family involvement. They also sponser summer activities for the kids. It is a family atmosphere. All the teachers have been excellent. They are very much appreciated.

SEA has been the academic answer to a lot of problems caused by substandard education at a previous school. My children are treated as if they are important. The teachers have been amazing in preparing for standardized testing. The school has even taken field trips to COSI, the Zoo and other places for the past 2 years. Learning isn't necessarily something that must be done in a classroom only. It is the school who/teacher who can make education happen anywhere that will be successful. In my opinion, SEA will be successful.

I have rated this school before. This is a very good school. The kid's are what it is about. And they do their best to help all the kid's. Not just the few chosen. They encourage family envolvement. And actually work with the kid's who are having problem's.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Ohio used the Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and in grades 5 and 8 in science. The OAA is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Ohio. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

About the tests

In 2010-2011, the Ohio Department of Education used the Value-Added Measure to show how much growth students made on the Ohio Achievement Test since the last school year. The state expects that student test scores will show an average year's worth of growth compared to test scores from the previous year. Ohio's Value-Added Measure is not the same as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal measure which uses different criteria.

About the tests

Ohio uses the Performance Index to provide an overall indication of how well students perform on its standardized tests each year. The Performance Index scores are based upon how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3 through 8 and 10. Schools and districts earn anywhere from 1.2 points for each student scoring at the advanced level to zero points for each untested student. The Performance Index ranges between 0 and 120, with 100 as the statewide goal for all students.
