We open enrolled my kids to because the school district was much better for us and up until this year. In the middle she started getting bullied & her grades went from A's to F's. I emailed her math teacher 7 times and I had to show up at the school. Her English teacher did not email me back either. They are trying to build independent students & at the high school they do. She was getting bullied. 2 girls were sitting next to her at lunch and they cant move once they sit down, push her away from her locker and every time we complained to the principal and counselor they would also would not get back to me. It would get worse when we complained about it got worse. They bullied other kids and one girl got moved but the other girl didn't.He said it wasn't bulling even though one kids got moved and the other didn't. So when I asked him what was bullying and he got mad at me and said if I didn't think he was protecting my kids then I could go the police. I complained to the board and they never called back. I just wanted to know some answers about what is bulling.Other kids in there getting pushed down stairs & getting stitches. No one cares the principal, counselor or the teachers!
I and several other parents have been very disappointed with the cooperation, Lessons, and administration of this school. I had to move out of district during the school year and was informed the kids could still attend via the online school. Well the online school ended up being a waste of my children's time - They failed everything because the school's equipment never worked and they would not except emails with the attachments of homework. Needless to say my children are now in a better school where they are actually being taught, is concerned enough to call home for even small things like a change in behavior, Keeps progress book and Blackboard up to date everyday and takes the time to recognize gifted students regardless of grades or rank. Very glad to be away from a school that did not offer my children a future.
The five years my child was in this district, the grades dropped abysmally, his/her behavior was unprecedented, he/she was depressed, and fought gouing to school. The curriculum relies on overwhelming amounts of homework. Bullying is a problem that is overlooked and certainly not discipline worthy. This school constantly cries for money with endless fundraisers, pushing the students to sell, sell, sell! If appearances are your priority, then Firelands is the place for you!
My son entered the district in 3rd grade after attending Avon St. Mary's. I found out he was a year behind academically. Once here, the teacher worked very hard to bring him up to where he should have been. I have found 90% of the teachers to be extremely good. The support system is excellent. They have a variety of programs for the students that promote growth in various areas. Next year is high school, I hope to continue to be pleased with the school district.
