Struthers Middle School is a great school. They seem to have alot of "old fashion" values. Yes they are strict on the rules however in order maintain control over the students I feel that they must be this way. My son takes full advantage of all the tutoring the school has to offer and they do offer help to all their students who ask for it. I have heard nothing but good things about the teachers there from my own children. Only complaint they seem to have about the school is the lack of choices they have for lunch. My only complaint is they should encoruage more parent involvement.
Struthers Middle School is a wonderful school. The band program is one of the best in my opinion and the school really cares about the students.
I love SMS! The teachers are great and we have great principles! I compleatly agree with the one that says December 27.
It is alright but really smells bad and focuses on little disciplinary things. Academics are good and there are some great teachers there too.
I used to be a teacher at SMS. When I first started, the books were old and tattered, the kids were out of control. I literally went home crying many nights...then the curriculum got aligned, the discipline code was brought up to date, grants were written to make this school one of the most technologically advanced in the area. The proficiency scores started rising from being one of the lowest in the area to average. (Not sure where they are today.) I know from personal experience that many of the teachers spend hundreds and thousands of their own dollars to make sure that their students have what they need. If anyone is worried about the administration being too overcontrolling, then maybe you should see what happens in a school where the discipline is not enforced, then there is no education taking place.
I agree with the other reviewer-- I attended this school, my younger sister attended this school, and my youngest sister is CURRENTLY attending this school. The administration is obssessed over little power-trip-type discipline issues, and kids are haphazardly thrown into classrooms without any regard for differing aptitude levels or levels of emotional maturity. On the plus side, the school IS newly remodeled, so you won't have to worry about your child's physical safety. Also, there are many worthwhile and well-educated teachers there. I dunno...I survived, I suppose! :)
This school seems to be way too focused on small discipline problems when it should be more concerned about the academics. Many students have trouble confinding in teachers, therefore, making an uncomfortable learning enviorment. On the up side all the school is remodeled. You can feel comfortable knowing your child will be safe. It is overall an ok school.
