I waited two years for my son to be accepted into GPA. Well worth the wait. GPS is more precise in their grading scale . I felt as if the other school my son was going to was a little off on where he really was on his academics.

The reading program, foreign language, and extended school day are strong positives for this school. They could improve on physical fitness, nutrition, and socialization. For example, recess is optional up to each teacher, so some classes rarely have recess, and even then the kids don't mix with other classes. Social bullying went unchecked in my child's classroom for the better part of a year but finally there is regular intervention by school councilor. Parents sponsor some extracurriculars such as scouting and little league. New building for August 2009, located back behind Sanger Branch Library.

Grove Patterson is the best school I could send my two boys to, bar none, public or private, urban or suburban. The teachers are very dedicated. Like anywhere, some are better than others. With the looping, German and Spanish ladders, and small (capped at 22) class sizes there is a strong sense of community and caring. The innovative programs offered such as the Success for All reading program, foreign language from K-8, math specialist, and extended school day provide a rich and vigorous academic experience. Expectations, of students and parents, are high. Best of all, this is a diverse school. This isn't an all white, affluent school coasting on high marks due to demographics. This is kids from many walks of life, working hard.

Overall, I am happy with the education my daughter recieves at GPA. I like the fact that they get foreign language every day. They have art and music once a week, which is also a bonus.

My daughter has attended Grove Patterson for two years. At first, I truly loved it and I felt it was a great place to learn. But I have been disappointed this school year (2004-2005). I thought the reading for two hours was great, but is it taking away from other subjects that need to be taught? I know school isn't the same as when I was going, but the basics are. My child comes home with school work that she does not understand. When I ask her, did you go over this in class, she says no, they just expect me to know the answers. In math, they check over the homework for a grade in the book, but do not go over the wrong answers. How are the children suppose to learn from their mistakes? Foreign language is great, but lets make sure they know English first.

My daughter attends this school and I love it. I really feel like she is learning ahead of other schools, and I love that the school is small enough that everybody knows everybody. My main goals in looking for a school for her were size (I wanted to be able to call and say I was her mom and they would know me and know her) and foreign language (I believe that learning a foreign language early in life helps children understand English better as well as the foreign language). I got both wishes with Grove Patterson. My sister in law is sending my nephew next year there too, because I recommend it so much!

Grove Patterson Academy has a great curriculm and dedicated teachers. I have had the honor to work in the classroom and see how the teachers work with the students. I am impressed that the curriculm includes almost two hours of reading instruction and they are currently learning spanish. I have recomended this school to my friends and family in the Toledo Public School District.
