West Side Montessori is a fantastic school! Our daughter has thrived at WSM. She will have the same teachers for three years, so they know her very well. Her teachers give her individual attention and lesson plans. She has challenging work that she loves and finds very interesting. There is a lot of parental involvement. Parents are encouraged to share their interests and culture with the class. Our daughter takes part in planning her week so that she is taught time management and organization. The children take turns leading the morning meeting, so they learn to speak in front of a group. Our daughter has grown academically and socially. She comes home from school wanting to read and do research. We are very happy with WSM.

An incredible educational institution providing the base for a lifetime of success - unavailable elsewhere. Children are motivated, organized, and self driven from the experiences and education they receive.

Our kids love going to school and WSM is the reason why. Aside from that simple critical fact WSM also earns high marks on other parental concerns. It promotes stimulation & learning. They go beyond mere numbers/letters & are filled with materials for reading, writing, math, practical life, geography, art, science, culture, zoology, music, & more. It promotes social education. The children learn how to interact with each other & how to resolve conflicts. They learn mutual respect & how to help each other. It promotes independence. The kids are able to make their own choices for activities. They are encouraged to work until completion thereby helping to develop concentration & self-esteem. It is designed to promote discussion & stimulate collaborative learning. Children move freely within the rooms & select work that captures their interest, rather than passively participating in lessons selected by the teachers. We purposely moved into Sylvania as it had a reputation for relatively good public schools. But we have continued to decide to keep our children at WSM. We feel a good education & a love of learning is the best gift we can give our children. We have found both at WSM.

My son and daughter have attended West side for over 9 years now. It has been very good for them and us as a family. The school is very proactive and makes sure that children and families that don't want to work with the school and others move along to something that suits them better. My children like learning, and the environment at school is better as they get older. The older children are not all caught up in what type of clothes they wear and having boyfriends and girlfriends. They work in school practically unsupervised. Their adult life will be rewarding and fulfilling with these traits.

I had a very poor experience with the Perrysburg campus. The teachers were very intolerant of my son and were convinced that he had some sort of a problem because he did not use the "materials" appropriately. They want all the kids to be exactly the same in behavior and as soon as they meet a challenge, they are very dismissive and arrogant. I went as far as taking my son to Pediatricians and specialists who just told me that I should remove my son from this school because it is not a good environment and will likely lower his self esteem. Please stay clear of this school.

My child attended Little House and Pre-Primary at West Side. He had a wonderful experience and was thriving the first three years. The teachers he had during the first three years were nurturing, responsive, provided detailed observations and adjusted their approach accordingly. As a result my son developed a voracious appetite for learning. The next set of teachers he was with were completely different. My son began to lose confidence and begging me to let him stay home from school. After trying to work with the teachers and their supervisor it was clear that the beauty of the genuine Montessori approach was in the individual teachers, not a school expectation of all teachers. Ultimately some teachers believe in and are devoted to the Montesori method, and others are not and therefore try to teach with traditional methodology using Montessori materials. Bottom line, if you want to get a picture of what will work for your child at this school then you should observe in all of the classrooms for your child's current and next level. This will prevent you from only seeing their "star" teachers. Educate yourself about Montessori's method and ask a lot of questions.

This is a truly excellent school. I, as alumni, look back at my years there as not only the most rewarding education I've ever received, but also the best time of my young life. My graduating class had both boys and girls- all of whom feel they benefitted from the experience. I have a younger brother who currently attends and is very active, yet we have had little difficulty. The teachers have worked with him extensively, and he does very well both in the classroom and his outside activities. The teachers there were (and are) exceptional, always very helpful and observant. They have helped me come into myself in a way I've never seen possible. I currently attend a school that is famed worldwide, yet find myself far surpassing my gifted peers in areas such as presentation skills, teamwork, organization, and time management- all of which I learned at West Side. The coursework is challenging but not unmanageable, and teachers are open and eager to assist any student struggling. Above all, though, my favorite part of the Montessori environment is the atmosphere: the area is far more alike to a workplace than a traditional classroom, which will no doubt prove helpful. Overall, I love it

I have had two kids at West Side from Little House on up and numerous friends with both boys and girls at the school who have been happy and very successful. West Side is simply an outstanding school with a wonderful, caring environment. It has prepared my kids amazingly well as individuals and as students. My kids love school and look forward to it each day. They get to know their teachers so well. Kids learn self-motivation, respect, community, caring, excellent academics. Bullying is nonexistent here. There are great enrichment programs and just a lot of kind, nice people.

I, too, also had a disappointing experience with this school for my son. The staff, which included two adults, appeared to have difficulty managing a little boy. Other parents who had boys enrolled in the past also had similar experiences. This school was recommended to me by parents of girls. Also, I discovered poor communication with me and the staff about any problems-a sign of poor professionalism. I would never recommend this school for any child, boy or girl (I now have a girl, so no bias in this evaluation).

Very dissapointing. Our experience is they are unprepared to deal with an active child. Boys are specifically an issue & I would not recommend this school if you have a normal active youngster, especially male.

I love this school, because of the respect given to the students and parents. Parents are very involved and possitive. Students are expected to be self-motivated and self-directed. The philosophy is consistent throughout all classes. Students reccieve small group instruction and quite a bit of free time to work on projects or explore resources with in the room. There is excellent French, Music and computer classes. Though gym is offered weekly, I would say athletics is definately the weak point. I love the school. I feel that my children are encouraged to stretch in a very supportive and friendly way.

Westside Montessori provided the strong educational foundation that our two daughters needed for high school. This school met all of our expectations and our daughters give full credit to Westside as the institution that helped to prepare them to meet the challenges of both high school and college. Our older daughter has now graduated from Harvard Law School and practices law in Michigan, while the younger one is presently attending Columbia University and will spend the 2003-04 year attending Oxford - St. Peters. Kudos to Westside!
