Vanlue High School is what it is. A small school that's the centerpiece of a small town. It's what holds the community together. And there are thousands of towns like Vanlue throughout the country. It may seem a hick town to some but to others it embodies the valuesand beliefs they cherish. I graduated over 40 years ago but I still check the Columbus paper to see how the team did. I believe there is somehting heroic about a school that continues to field a football team that may have little chance to win but does offer the opportunity to compete. I received a good education from Vanlue and managed to get a doctorate degree several years ago. I feel the education I received at Vanlue was a great help and in no way a hinderance.
Yes, Vanlue is a small school. But, it has a lot of pride. Vanlue is known as the small school and some of us like it that way. Some of us like having a close relationship with our teachers and other fellow students. I, a student at Vanlue, am completely against the consolidation. Why consolidate with another school that has money problems, too? I can only hope that we can continue to have Vanule Local School, my hometown. It's what's right and what many of us want. Vanlue is dear to us all and if we get rid of this school, Vanlue will just go down in flames. There will be no reason for outsiders to come to Vanlue. We so very badly need the school to help this town.
I am a parent of children who currently attend Vanlue. While most teachers seen nice, I believe there is a lot to be desired in the field of academic quality. Yes it is a small school atmostphere, but it is too small. With just over 260 students and enrollment declining, I believe consolidation is the right thing to do for my childrens' education. Extracurricular activities also leave a lot to be desired. It would be nice not to have to worry if you have enough boys for the football team, and to win more than 1 game a year. How discouraging for the kids. The school is too small and with taxes going up and people losing their jobs, it is also getting too expensive to keep going like they are. We are only hurting our children future.
Just to let everyone know, the previous reviewer is a former student at Vanlue and is not a parent, if he were he would understand the value of a small school atmosphere with the attention that can be provided in this setting, he is also the child of a former principal at Vanlue. hmm... you know those teachers kids.. Extracurricular activities are important and are offered, but acedamic quality should be first in a parents mind.
This is no more than a boring hick town. The people are biased and ignorant, but they seem to enjoy this. There is very little extracurricular activities and the school's facilities are seem to be from 1950. I feel that this is a school that will not be there much longer, it seems to be heading for consulidation. oh, well. I dont think that anyone will miss this place, besides the people that are happy living in the 'dome' that they submerge themselves into.
