My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD. Academically he was doing awesome but behaviorally he was doing horrible. I felt that West Union Elem. refused to work with him after a certain point. They never actually said that he needed to be on medicine to continue at the school but in conversation it would continously come up. After a point they didn't give him after school like everyone else they just suspended him, no matter what happened. I removed my son and now he is doing great. I wouldn't reccommend this school to anyone whos child has any problems either mentally, physically or developement wise.

In some ways, this isn't a bad school. It is currently in substandard buildings but they are working on that. Where I have problems are the quality of the teachers, the class size, and the unwillingness of the principal to work with parents to the benefit of the child. There are some teachers in the system that teach from behind their desks or are hard/bitter veterans that refuse to retire. Class to teacher ratio's are pitiful. Too many students per teacher and students are more likely to fall through the cracks. The principal, who put my straight-A son into a classroom full of children with IEP's, behavioral issues, and developmental delays ...then refused to move him into a classroom where he could be academically challenged. It is no wonder children fall behind when going to this school. Because of this, we're pulling our son from this school.

West Union Elementary is not a bad school to attend. I do believe, however, that the student per teacher ratio is a bit too much for one teacher to handle, thus making it harder for our children to learn more or to advance in their ability. I believe if more parents would become involved with helping the teachers, our children would be able to advance to the rates they need to be; some parents do not even help their children at home or given them the support or encouragement they deserve to help them to excel. The school is quite strict on coming in and doing what you want, so security is quite tight, not only for parents but for anyone wanting to visit. I like this in my school system, because at least I know my children are safe, and I have no problem signing in at the office.

I would just like to say how disappointed I am with this school.I feel that our children are getting a very poor education My son says he is very board, and that the class is to big. He is one out of very few who can actually read at all in the first grade and he reads very well, but it is no thanks to west union elementary. since we moved here he has had no homework and no challange. Our children are our FUTURE and should get the best education possible but instead they are just being past along without a care . Acording to my research this school has fallin 2 YEARS behind where they should be accadimicly in the no child left behind act. My husband went to this school and could not read untill he was in the 6th grade. Is this the standard of education we want for OUR children,OUR FUTURE? Not ME!

I have been very disappointed with the leadership of our school this year. All you hear is how the principal doesnt want the parents in the school and if they are they have to sit in the classroom and not be involved. I cannot even walk my son to his class if he needs help with something. The principal leadership of this school needs to be changed or their wont be any children to teach, they will all have left to other schools.
