Our son has attended CCA for the past four years, having transferred in from a public school. Although struggling with English for the first part of his freshman year (CCA was greatly ahead of the public school), he was able to catch up (with a lot of hard work!). The teachers are Christ-centered, committed, caring, and go to great lengths to engage and challenge the students. CCA requires its students to work hard and emphasizes development of their critical thinking skills, applying this approach to the "four cores": reading, writing, math, and science. This approach helped our son to score a 30 ACT. He also greatly enjoyed the ability to serve on a missions trip to Nicaragua, as well as other outreach/missions projects sponsored by the school. CCA offers varsity basketball, baseball, and soccer for boys. The coaches for these sports are outstanding, providing an example to the boys in leadership, humility, and a "Christ-first" mentality. The teams in each sport have all had legitimate runs at the state championship. Last, CCA has produced musicals or dramas for each year that our son has attended. And they were fun! As a parent, I highly recommend this school.
Cornerstone Christian Academy in Willoughby. This school is for the underpriveleged children in the area. If you are an average parent wanting to put your child in a great private school stick to the Catholic schools. Even if you aren't Catholic your child can go to the school. This school is very pricey and they like to add mysterious fees to tuition. I would not recommend this school.
Amazing school with a great curriculum and staff! My children loved going there and I'd recommend this school to anyone!
I don't think I would send my children to CCA if I had to do it again. The school says it is rooted in Christian values, but many of the students and the administration do not adhere to those values. They all know the right things to say, but their actions don't match up to true Biblical principles.
Some really good teachers, some very average teachers, minimal technology in the classroom and almost non-existent library resources, limited music and arts programs, limited athletic program and facilities, very weak leadership with no accountability
This school is firmly founded on the Word of God. The principal is a hard working, understanding, and wise individual who invests time in the students on a whole and individually as well. The school staff is made up of teachers and coaches who fear the Lord and are honest and real. CCA is not perfect, true, but God has blessed it greatly. There are many opportunities to serve the community and abroad, including the CCA Missions program that takes older students to Central America. As far as academics go, there is a varied range of teaching styles, which is very useful for preparing students for the kinds of teachers they will meet in college. The writing department is absolutely superb and trains students to be top-notch writers, as college professors have attested. The drama department is also offers fabulous productions for students to participate in. Some of the sports programs make the best out of what they have, but some of the teams are made up of championship winning athletes. On a final note, even families who aren't well off have been blessed with the opportunity to attend, and God will provide if it's His will for your student to attend.
I love the school!!! I love the staff!!! The staff are very caring. The principal has a relationship with the kids. My child loves the school and gets upset when school is closed. She has made friends at school. I have a sense of family at the school. Academically, I feel as though my child is excelling. The environment is very different than public school. Children actually have moral standards and this reinforced at school. They actually reinforce Christian principles.
I have several children at Cornerstone and have found it to be a school committed to being as biblical as it can be by God's grace. Unfortunately, some commentators on this site are clearly not committed to being the same. Don't let disenchanted critics stop you from experiencing Cornerstone for yourself. I am an ex-employee and parent of a former student. CCA offers a poor education that does not stand up to nearby schools. True, students appear to do well on the SAT/ACT, but the reality is that students are 1-2 years behind their peers at other nearby schools (public and private) and are very poorly prepared for college. The administration is ineffective at running the school. It is at best a mystery when (or if) school-related events will occur. Athletics are adequate where they exist but suffer from the same disorganization. The facilities are good. Unfortunately, despite the promise in their name, there is little "Christian" about the school (I mean really, does Jesus command that there be a coffee shop in the church?) and it exists primarily to separate parents frightened of the world from their money; resulting in equally frightened and closed up children. You can do better.
Very caring teachers, strong academics, and a very pure environment for children to learn in. It is wonderful that my children can be in a caring, god loving place all day and be learning at the same time. Would recommend this school to anyone who is looking for the best for their children.
I am a former teacher at CCA. CCA is certainly not an elite private school in the academic arena, and lacks the depth of classes found in even basic public schools (no band, only 1 foreign language, limited art classes, etc). The teachers are mostly nice and competent, but due to extremely low salary there is high staff turnover and some teachers who are not very skilled. The administration is 'all powerful,' but mostly fair and they seem to make an honest attempt to run their school on Christian principles. If you are looking for a Christian school with nice kids, moderate cost, and a conservative evangelical outlook, this could be a great fit. The student body is definitely the best thing going for CCA - I've never met so many thoughtful, creative and respectful teens in one place. If you are looking for an elite academic experience or strong athletics, look
After three years of attending this school we left due to the academics and leadership. As we feared, our children were behind in math and other studies. At CCA our children were A adverage students. In the public school they are mostly C.
My daughter goes to K-4 class at CCA and I must say I am more than impressed with the academics. In the 4 months since she has started school she has learnt all the phonic sounds, can count up to 100 and write her first name. From what we have felt, her class teacher is the perfect blend of being a good disciplinarian, along with being loving, caring and God fearing. My daughter loves to go to school.
I am a gradute of cornerstone, and I have to say the school is terrible. I found myself very unprepared for colllege, I have had to use the tactics and study habits I learned at my previous school. Basically cca is a joke in my book. I would not advise anyone to send their children there if they want them to recieve an education..
The teacher to student ratio is great and the children are very supportive of the other students. My son is in 7th grade and daughters are in 10th and 8th and they tell me all the time how the seniors of the class of 2010 are a super support to the whole school and to all of the students including mine! this is a great school!
I am a student at CCA and I have say that i love it here!!! Before I switched out of my other school i had a GPA of 1.253. That is almost strait D's and F's. The year i switched out and went to CCa my GPA went to a 3.563! It was easy to get along with the students as soon as i had transferred in and I was known by name the first day that I joined. I am currently a senior for the graduating class of 2010!!! I can say that this school is not only one of the best schools in the USA but because of the Christian values that are brought forward makes this school one of the best in the nation! I would never want to leave CCA other then graduate from this school!
Weak committment to training & embracing christian character. Students are not stretched spiritually. It is a average private school, however, lacks the foundation for a Christian school. Non-existant board. No organization exist to foster dialogue between parents & leadership. Very closed door policy, prefer parents stay un-invloved. Students are exposed to in-appropriate conduct. leadership does not follow thru on discipline issues, therefor anything goes. Very much like a public school, with uniforms.
I'm a student a CCA, and not only are the teachers always there for the mass of the student populous. They are also there for the individual. When ever I have a problem or question they are always there to help me out. They may not have the best sports program, but we always strive our hardest in whatever we do. So if i were to sum the school up in about 3 words I would probably say Godly, Helpful, Considerate, and Friendly. So if you are thinking about putting you child in a christian school. I would recommend this school, and we would welcome them with open arms.
I'm a student at CCA, and can't express how grateful I am for all of the teachers and staff that work there. They all really care about how your doing; you can come into their classroom during a free period and ask them questions about the material or anything personal. They really strive to help students and serve the Lord. The sports teams are excellent, beating both Hawken and Kirtland in soccer. The music and drama program is rapidly growing with more and more students joining every year. They now have an after school Acting Club in addition to Drama class for high school and elementary students. The productions put on are of fabulous quality. Chapels are held every Wednesday during fourth period. Throughout all of the academics, sports, and extracurricular activities (i.e. mock trial), God is always included in them. All in all, CCA is the place to be.
