My child attends there, and all of the teaching staff have been wonderful. He has been taught very well, and is making straight A's. We also help at home, so that helps too, but teachers make a big difference in a childs life. This school is wonderful, and I and very glad my kids are a part of it.

As a graduate of SVHS, I find getting my grandson after school is a delightful experience -- my grandson is learning in leaps & bounds, the teachers are great, the office staff is very efficient, the school is spotless and the activities hanging on the wall are very artistic! This is the best school in southern Ohio... The teachers are great and so is the principal... The staff genuinly cares about the kids.. I wouldn't want my kids to be anywhere else in the day but there... I can send my kids to school knowing they will be kept safe and that is a great feeling.... Keep up the great work SV!!!

I myself being raised in the 'big city' style of life and recently moving here to Lawrence County 6 month's ago. I have been to the school on many occassion's for whatever reason's and dealt with teachers like Mr. Humphries (to mention only one of many), I AM VERY IMPRESSED with the educational concern given to my step-son as well as ALL the student's. It is a pleasure to see such a high quality of education availabilty in this rural area.

In 2010-2011, the Ohio Department of Education used the Value-Added Measure to show how much growth students made on the Ohio Achievement Test since the last school year. The state expects that student test scores will show an average year's worth of growth compared to test scores from the previous year. Ohio's Value-Added Measure is not the same as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal measure which uses different criteria.

About the tests


Ohio uses the Performance Index to provide an overall indication of how well students perform on its standardized tests each year. The Performance Index scores are based upon how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3 through 8 and 10. Schools and districts earn anywhere from 1.2 points for each student scoring at the advanced level to zero points for each untested student. The Performance Index ranges between 0 and 120, with 100 as the statewide goal for all students.
