Being an enrolled student at Wooster High School, but not being in the district my whole life this school is not great. The building is wonderful but the roofs leak. The teachers do not have a personal connection with you. The disciplinary staff does not follow through with a punishment. Wooster is full of disappointments.

Dr. Dan Good has taken this staff of very qualified instructors and taken them to a new level of learning. Wooster High School is the place to be.

Wooster High School has a wonderful physical environment but it's quality ends there. Students get inflated grades and graduate with a false sense of academic accomplishment which is immediately challenged when they enter good colleges. The WHS honor roll reported in our local newspaper would lead one to think that the vast majority of our students are college material. A more accurate appraisal might be made by comparing the GPA's with ACT and SAT scores for the same students. Our school board has prioritized sports interests over academic for years now.

This school is good academically, and has a wide choice of quality classes. It tends to be expensive, because parents are expected to pay for virtually everything since the levy did not pass. Good quality teachers, good sports and music programs, good drama, great speech and debate, discipline could be better, but is on the rise.

Although Wooster is a superior academic option to many area schools, Wooster suffers from a lack of advanced programs. The athletic program thrives, as do extracurriculars such as band, forensics and journalism. The orchestra program is weaker.

My daughter recently graduated from Wooster as a class valedictorian and as a Merit Scholarship Recipient--both high achievements. (I have another daughter scheduled to begin high school this fall.) Although the physical facility of the school is unsurpassed, student accomplishments are in spite of the teaching, not because of it. With few exceptions, the teachers are weak. Some exhibit an intimidating demeanor in the classroom, while others are simply lazy and do not do their work. There is a teacher culture of 'just showing up for work' with no real enthusiasm for learning. As an illustration, my daughter's invitation to join NHS contained misspelled words (e.g., 'scholorship' and 'committment'). Unfortunately there is no easy solution to this problem. Indeed, students risk teacher scorn when they challenge the teacher mediocrity at Wooster High School.

Administration and the community need to recognize that the mental health needs of its students (and faculty) have a direct bearing on test scores, academics, sports, and extra-curriculars. Were these issues addressed in a responsible, honest fashion - WHS (and EJHS) would be among the best secondary schools in the state of Ohio.

I am a student at Wooster High School and I think that maybe you should have a student section because we are the ones who actualy go there. And I dont think its all that great. Yes, its a nice building but there are rampent drugs and alcohol. I see it almost everyday. So maybe we should have a student section on this page.
