My Family just moved here from Cincinnati, OH and so this year , so my daughter was a new student at Colonial Hills Elementary School. She was starting a new school in 6th grade and was extremely nervous. All the teachers, students and parent's were so welcoming. By the time the school year ended, she felt like she was in the school since Kindergarten. The education she received here in one year, was amazing. Her three teachers truly cared about their job and the students, which obviously showed. The music program is top notch and allowed the students to enjoy school more than I believe they normally would. The two plays they put on seemed like high school productions. I am so glad that Colonial Hills still realizes that music is an important part of the students curriculum.
A fantastic school serving an equally fantastic neighborhood. A true community school walking distance from most of the neighborhoods 700 homes.
I cannot say enough about this GEM of a school. I have been an involved parent for the last four years and have loved every moment. This school is primarily a walking school which gives parents a unique opportunity to be a daily presence in the school community -- chatting with other parents and teachers before and after school. Many parent volunteers and an outstanding teaching and administrative staff and a cozy, family feel make this school incomparable. My husband just got a new job out-of-state and leaving this school will be the hardest part of our move. It is simple not replaceable.
We have been very satisfied with Colonial Hills Elementary. The teachers are truly concerned about the welfare of the students.
I cannot describe in words just what a wonderful asset Colonial Hills Elementary School is to its students and our closeknit community. The teachers are first-rate: caring, motivated and creative. Most bent over backwards to educate and support my daughter throughout her elementary years. Early-bird gymnastics and an amazing music/drama program are worth special note. We're all family.
CHES is one of those hidden gems. Located in a neighborhood with strong community involvement, the environment is warm, friendly and supportive. The school and neighborhood create a wonderful environment in which to raise children.
Colonial Hills is a wonderful neighborhood school. To be able to go here for 7 years is such a benefit and as some people say lucky! The parents are involved, the kids are great. You get a sense of family in every activity planned! Just check out the stats to prove it, some classes have wait lists and some come from other schools to attend. The kids learn to interact with every type of student, special-needs, multi-cultural, financially secure and those who are not, and that experience is priceless! It forms a well rounded child ready for the world. On a side note, Worthington district could do a better job with their special ed services and training their teachers. They lacked in this dept. when my child attended. But this school was the best!
Colonial Hills Elementary School is the most phenomenal school and my husband and I feel blessed to have our daughter attend. The population is small, yet incredibly diverse. The staff - teachers, administration, and support staff - are warm, caring, and firm, and push each student to be his or her best. The focus on the arts is admirable, as well as the focus on individual health and fitness. CHES is a true gem.
This is an unbelievably great school! The administration is excellent and approachable, the staff are all dedicated and fabulous educators, the parents involvement is high and a great assset, the facility is great and the surroundings are picturesque. I have never seen a child handled in any but the most professional manner with special attention given to those with special needs. I have never seen such an absolutely perfect school.
Colonial Hills is a amazing school! The principle is wonderful he takes the extra to get to know his students and genuinely cares for each and everyone. My son entered into kindergarten at a reading level above many in his class, our kindergarten teacher found alternative reading activities for him to participate in. He was able to spend time in a fifth grade classroom and interact with many of the students. He was able to create a power point presentation and presented it with his fifth grade student helpers. I cannot say enough good things about our school, I feel lucky to have my son in such a wonderful learning environment.
I love the feeling of the school- amazing community, best staff ever and wonderful and bright kids!
I love Colonial Hills because of our first-rate teachers, staff and our Principal. There is strong parent involvement and community support.
I am a parent of a Colonial Hills special needs student, my son has behavioral issues and was placed in an intergrated Kindergarten classroom with a teacher named Mrs. Deagle. She is just the sweetest and most genuinely caring teacher I have had the pleasure of meeting. My son has an IEP in place from our previous school district and if your looking for that teacher to leep you informed on your child's progress she is a keeper. She emails and makes phone calls! My son has made a lot of progress and the team IEP met with me several times over the year in order to keep what was best for my son in mind. Ultimately, we decided that Bluffsview would be better for him because they have a better program designed for his particular needs but I still would recommend this school to anyone, its small but diverse.
I hope your child doesn't have special needs- worthington may be rated an excellent school, but certainly not for those children who have special needs above and beyond what the teacher provides for her 'typical' students. Rather than rendering support for problems, many of the teachers are punitive and punish children for symptoms related to medical conditions relating to Autism and ADD-- certainly not acceptable support or free appropriate public education for those special children who by law are entitled to it.
Colonial Hills is a model community school. It is small and well-organized. Family members are actively involved in the classroom and with the PTA. Colonial Hills' greatest strength lies in its diversity and incredible related arts (gym, art, music) teachers. The school has a unique semi-wooded setting complete with outdoor classroom and is tucked away in a quiet low-traffic established neighborhood. The only drawback we have found is the fifty-year-old school building is in need of some structural updates (ceiling, bathrooms, etc).
I feel very fortunate that both my children were able to attend CH. Both are in HS now, and excel in their studies. I feel that it is because of the basic skills that they learned while at CH that they are doing so well in HS today. CH is also more diverse than other Worthington Schools, which I feel benefited my children in that they can relate much better to the diverse population in HS, and later on in college and the work force. The basic skills taught were excellent, they advanced classes good, art and gym were excellent. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants the quality education of a private school education for their children at a public school price.
Colonial Hills Elementary in Worthington, Ohio is an excellent school for a number of reasons. Our daughter is currently a 5th grader there, and has been attending since kindergarten. She loves it and so do we, so much so that we've remained in the neighborhood for that reason alone. The staff is extremely professional, courteous and insist on the same from all the children . . . regardless of age, race, or grade. The school is located in one of the suburb school districts, so half-day kindergarten exists there but full-day is an option as well for a nominal fee. The curriculum is top-notch and the lunches they serve all year long have always been extremely healthy, nutritious, and taste very good. I've always been a from-scratch-cook, so our daughter is extremely picky about what she eats . . . she loves it. Extremely Satisfied Parent
My daughter is in the Kindergarten class at Colonial Hills E.S. I would recommend this school to anyone. My daughters teacher seems qualified and caring. She takes time each day to work one on one with the children to help them excel. She also sends each parent an email of what has transpired during the day. This is extremely helpful in knowing so we can also work at home with our children to reinforce what they learned. Every morning the principal is outside to greet the students (even in the winter). The school is a very warm and friendly environment. I am very pleased with this school! Luckily, my daughter has 6 years here. This school has set standards for others in the area. Thank you Colonial Hills E.S!
