Just like any school, Davenport has its advantages and disadvantages. It does have smaller clasees which is good for teacher-child ratio. No child is left behind. JH and HS are not schooled with the elementary! The are across campus in different buildings. The only time JH or HS kids come to elementary is to the library. Elementary kids are never left unattended so they are never in any harm with the older kids. I do think, however, that the JH/HS should have their own library. The teachers are very well educated and professional. Aides are hired to help in classrooms that are larger in numbers which comply with state laws.
DES has a great staff, excellent curriculum and a wonderful reading program. They follow through with their discipline procedures as promised. As far as overcrowding, the only grade that had that many students was 2nd and they had a teacher and an aide in the room which is in compliance with state law. I had 3 children in DES this past school year. One in K, 1st and 3rd. My youngest had 15 in his class, the 1st grader had 17 in her class and the 3rd grader had 18 in his class. A great student to teacher ratio. However there are some things that were not so great. For one thing, the building is very old and the classrooms leak when it rains. As for older kids being schooled with younger, I sub there and have never witnessed a problem. DES all in all is a very loving place!
