This school has everything going for it; teachers who care, staff who go the extra mile, and parents who participate. The only problem is a big one and it's Common Core. If they implement Common Core, the teachers might as well be replaced with robots, because you can't teach you will just be facilitating what Washington DC wants your children to repeat.

Do not recommend this school, have a preschooler who goes here and everything about the school is very unorganized. Little pre-schoolers and kindergartens are getting trampled by older students on pick up and drop off. Office staff seems not to care and are ignorant to their surroundings. Parents are scrabbling all over the place pushing and shoving.

We loved the school under Debbie Straughn's leadership. She was the best principal we ever had. We miss her!!!!!!

The teachers, staff and parents all work together to make it the best learning environment possible for the kids. There is even an 'outdoor classroom' where the kids learn about nature!!

I love the LOVE & LOGIC programs this Elementary has.... BOTH my kids went through this school, and have a lot more knowledge about a strong foundation of morals and ethics.

This is a school for parents looking for strong academics in a positive envirnment and fleeing from the 'progressive' 80's style education. I feel the time spent 'teaching to the test' was low because the curriculum is good. The Great Expectations program is phenomenal! My children thrived here! If you want a 'child centered', 'self esteem' focused education try out Deer Creek's Rose Union Elementary.

I do not have any other school to compare DCES with other than a small private school. According to API scores the school is great. They teach to scores not at all a school for developmentally appropriate studies for elementary aged children.

This is our first year at Deer Creek and we are pleased. I would like to see more extracurricular activities for students under the fifth grade.

Principal Toni Jones is amazing. She puts the children's education 1st. Her consistent & honest communication with everyone means no game playing. Her superb leadership raises test scores in every school she's at. We love her, our children love her. Thanks for a great school and our children's stellar education.

Deer Creek Elementary is a Great Expecation Model School. It is also a Blue Ribbon school recognized as a school of excellence. The staff is outstanding. Principal Straughn has hired exceptional people. I like how she is always available.

Outstanding prinicpal, faculty, and environment. ACtivities are wonderful and music program is super. The very best in families and educational standards. We are so proud to live here and be a part of this school and community.

Great administration & parent cooperation in supporting needs of the children. Principal Debbie Straughn is outstanding, as is the entire faculty. Parent volunteers absolutely make the difference during a time of statewide education budget crisis. Would not consider moving from this school district.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Oklahoma used the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests (OCCT) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science and writing. The OCCT is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oklahoma.
