This is our first year at Orvis, and we could not be happier. We recently moved here from another school district in another city, and although we struggle financially because of the move to Edmond for the schools, our children are much better off here. The teachers actually care. The principal and staff care. I am very happy with this school and would hope that anyone looking for a school for their children would considering moving to this school's district.

My daughter is in 1st grade this year and can read just about anything. She has excelled in all subjects and has had wonderful teachers. The office staff is very sweet and informative. She is in the afterschool program there as well and I feel like she is loved and taken care of there. I would recommend this school. And so far, the new principle this year has been amazing!

Sooo excited that Mrs. Perry is at Orvis! She is a Rockstar! We are in for an amazing year! My 3rd grader is excited!
I have two children currently attending this school. My 3rd grader switched from Will Rogers because his teacher insisted he be tested for a learning disability. His first grade teacher at Orvis Risner was able to present reading to him in such a way that by that over the next summer he carried several books everywhere we went just like my pre-schooler did toys. Everytime I looked at him he was reading. He never had a hard time with math but now he is in the 3rd grade and just scored a 138 on the Kbit2 test for enrichment classes. Thank you TEACHERS! My other child is in Kindergarten class with a rather challenging group of children and I am not pleased with the social interactions my child has encountered with several students in this class, however, I suppose as long as I use this experience as an example for him and teach him how to properly deal with such encounters I believe this could be to his benefit. After all we also have two teenagers and are well aware that there is only so long you truly do have control over what kind of people/other kids interact with your child and it is a good thing our older two have also learned to choose friends wisely.

This school has some of the hardest working teachers in Edmond. My children went to another Edmond school when we first moved here and now we are at Orvis. They love it and we love it. Teachers go above and beyond.

As an active parent at Orivs Risner, I felt that the same parents were doing all the work. It was discouraging to see so little parent involvement.

My children attended OR. I believe there is too much emphasis on 'extra' fluff and not the core curriculum. Every time we turned around there was some new program to get used to. Enough already! Stop trying to build resumes and focus on the kids.

As a parent of this school, I feel that the school is not concentratng enough on challenging the students academically. There is too much time spent on issues/services that our state already provides them... Social Services.

I would not recommend this school, but do recommend that the school report card, published by the state, providing 'API' and other statistics such as suspension rates be thoroughly reviewed and compared with other schools in this district before placing your child in this school. I suggest weighing the facts before you are persuaded by opinions.

Its a very educational school that helps learning in very educating ways. I heard they have 'Kindness Counts', they apperently like kindness.

My children have attended in this school for four years. I cannot say enough good things about the hard working teachers and staff, the involved parents and the hands on leadership of the assistant principal and principal. Every problem we ever had, was addressed quickly and to our satisfaction.

We love this school! The teachers and staff are so caring and really go the extra mile! We used to send our child to private school, and had we known about Orvis Risner then, we would have saved $20,000 for her college education and placed her at Orvis instead. The PTA is always adding programs, and are receptive to knew ideas. Which we did not experience in private 'Christian' school. Our child loves it so much, when we asked her which school she preferred, Orivs was her answer hands down.

My son has attended this school K-5. We love this school and all it has to offer. We have a new principal this year, who replaced a top notch principal. He had been there for nine years. He was the best and so far, glad to say so is she. Super parent involvement. Excellent caring teachers. Great dads program. This school has it all. It will be hard to leave after this year.

When making a decision as to where to send our children to elementary school, my husband and I visited several schools in the Edmond district, including parental choice schools. It is with great pride that we chose our neighborhood school, Orvis Risner, to begin our children's school career. Our oldest is now excelling as a freshman in high school, Cimarron Middle School is home to our middle child and our youngest is still going strong at Orvis. We feel that our children have been provided with excellent academic leadership, a well-rounded exposure to cultural experiences, and a strong love for learning. The parents and teaching staff have cooperated together to create a wonderful environment where children can be themselves while growing up in school. We are thrilled with our choice and would strongly recommend this school to.

Orvis Risner is an excellent elementary school. The PTA is very supportive of all programs and it is easy to get involved. The parent communication is excellent with weekly folders detailing all school programs, PTA activities and classroom progress. The school has children from every race and socioeconomic class. It is truly a sample of the 'real world'! The teachers work hard to make sure each child is successful. I have had 4 children go through the school in the last 8 years and have seen many changes--all positive--as the school strives to become even better each year. The use of Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math makes a huge difference in the way they are able to individualize and track the progress of each child. They also have one of the best Dad's Organizations I have ever heard of to get fathers involved with their kids.

Both my children attended Orvis from K - 5. Orvis is a school where the children come first. Each child is encouraged to do their personal best. They use the Accel. Reader Program to help the students work at their own pace to reach individual goals. They believe reading is the stepping stone for all subjects. The teachers work hard to bring out the best in each child. The principal is kind and knows each child by name. He is very knowledgeable and is a great example of what a leader should be. He and the teachers work hard to stay in contact and work hand in hand with the parents so that our children get the best education possible. Thank you Orvis Risner for bringing out the best in my children and giving them the encouragement and confidence they need to go on to middle school and succeed in life.
