This is by far one of the best schools in the state. My child has gone up three reading levels and has truly blossomed under the staff's great care. The math and geography teachers have really reached out and given my child a lot of encouragement. Also, the science and technology departments have introduced Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math practices by such things as robotics, computers, and programming. The athletic coaches push the kids to be their best and academics is supported. Can't say enough about this treasure trove in a little town called Freedom.
school is highly inflated because of extra points given for 100 percent graduation, no questions missed on the 3 eight grade test or biology test. There were no 8 grade students is why they missed no questions and their was no biology class so of course they missed no questions either. As for the 100 percent graduation, 5 out of 7 seniors dropped out but the students had them a paper that said they would be home schooled. Aad the 2 that graduated missed more than the state allowed with all their unexcused absences but the school board allowed it because they changed to excused illness. Their math and science teachers quit and in order to get someone to come to the school they had to offer them a one time 5000 dollar signing bonus. Now we know that the teachers will quit next year when they recieve a 5000 dollar pay cut. So I guess they only need to higher one every three years. I found it interesting that they havent taught bioloby in three years and dont need to teach physics or chemistry any more but are offering both biology I and II in the same year. I always thought you needed to take biology I before taking Biology II. TRY ALVA FIRST
This school is awesome. It is really almost like a private school in some respects with the low number of students. They have all kinds of programs / classes available to students like AP courses, FACS, Ag Ed, Drama, etc... And they also are now putting out a school newsletter! Great teachers and admin that really care about the kids!! A 105 A + score in 2012-2013...it doesn't get much better than that!
