Flower Mound is the ideal elementary school that parents want for their children. My son has some difficulties with ADHD and SPD. Flower Mound took great care of him and all his needs to help him succeed for the school year. We saw big improvements with him. We were always kept updated and knew that he was cared for and loved by the staff of Flower Mound. Not only his teachers, but a lot of the other staff kept in touch and helped us continuously. Never once did my husband or I have any doubt about this school's ability to care for my child and his education. Hands down, one of the best schools in Lawton. We recently moved and Flower Mound definitely "spoiled" us. It has been really hard for us to accept the fact he is no longer in Flower Mound.
Flowermound School is a JOKE. There is NO leadership! It's only a Dictatorship!!! The building itself needs to be torn down or completely renovated. Majority of the classes don't have air. Some of the 'classrooms' are mobile buildings outside. The playgorund always smells like sewer. The toilets never flush properly. The auditorium serves as an 'all purpose' room. Some of the teachers don't have your child's best interest at heart. I really don't understand why they're even teaching. This school says "Striving for Success No Matter What It Takes", but that's a lie. If you are a parent that takes an interest in your child's education and you are willing to stand up for your child when they are being unfairly treated.....DO NOT ENROLL YOUR CHILD IN FLOWERMOUND!
FMS is a school where everyone from the principal to the teachers to the secretaries, to the cooks, want the very best for your child. Our family has relocated due to job requirements on several occasions. When we found out we were coming back to Lawton, the first thing we did was call ahead to get our children on the list for this school year. We have been gone for several years and attended other schools during that time. No other place offers the care and concern that Flower Mound does. We are happy to back to this excellent school.
In response to the parent who said people wait in line for their children to attend Flowermound it's for the FREE Pre-K. After that you don't see people getting put on lists for the other grades you see parents pulling their children out. Just wait till you have a disagreement with the principal and see how fast you remove your children. She is the most two-faced person I've ever come across. Her only concerns are for herself and not the well fair of the students. I agree with the other parents referring to how she hand picks her school board members and some of her key staff. I pulled one of my children out of there because of issues I had with some of the politic's there. My other child remained for his last year there because of his friends, and the 5th grade teachers are good. I will say some of the teachers are good but they have some bad ones just like any other school. The biggest problem with Flowemound is who's leading it. The principal has lost sight of that and has allowed people with wealth take over and compromise her legacy of her past years where she did care and did do the right thing for the students.
Flower Mound is a fantastic school! I can see the reason so many people from out of district wait in line to get their children in school here! Love it!
Teachers so far have been great, as far as the leadership I'd say it's lacking. The principal needs to be replaced, I believe this one is burnt out. I've noticed through the years the demoralization of this principal. She lacks the integrity needed for this job, which is a must when dealing with our children. I have spoken to many parents and they have agreed this school would be much better with the right leadership. We need someone in there that doesn't fold to politics. Placing the parents or their family members with money in charge of the PTO and School Board. It's public record, just take a look for yourself and compare staff with school board members.
Flower mound needs to be torn down and rebuilt. If they can't get a bond to pass for a new school it needs to be shut down. The toliets hardly flush, the kids have to do PE in bird poop under the breazeway. The playground was updated a few years back but its right next to raw sewage. It stinks bad and the children deal with this daily. This is unsafe for the kids especially when their outside the sewage sprays them. The school is so hot in the spring and summer, children are cramped in these small rooms without proper air conditioning. I agree with the other comment regarding the principal and her choosing her school board. She has run this school in the ground over the past few years. Over half of the kids aren't in the district, I'd say less than 25% live in Flower Mound district. Pre-K is the only thing keeping this school from closing in addition to the open enrollment.
the school needs definately a building that can accomodate all students and their needs, as classrooms are small, and not enough! Cafeteria should be easily accessible, without children going outside of building - in bad weather this is a disadvantage! Teachers are wonderful, and their program in both pre-K and K is great. Kids love it and are doing great. I do provide 100% of parent involvement in my children's education! I am a strong believer that the child should learn both at school and at home and parents guidance and assistance is the best way for kids to achieve success in everything!
When my children started this school in Pre-K, it was a great school. Over the last several years, the Principal has managed to run it into the ground. The school board members are hand selected by the Principal so that she can manipulate them into letting her run the school without oversight. The classes are over crowded. The gym is the lunch room, music room, and anything else they can squeeze into it. The kids have to have PE in a covered bus area that is covered in bird droppings. The library is also a 4th grade classroom. The annual State test scores reflect the fact that educating the kids is not a priority. As history has shown us in the past, one person can make a difference in a positive or negative way. Unfortunately in this case, negative is an understatement. I would look to LPS instead!
the principal does not communicate, and blames parents for her and teachers faults. had a meeting to find out why notes and questions weren't being answered in my sons agenda that's turned in daily and was told that even though the teacher looks at it it's only to see that my son wrote something in it not that it's correct or to check for communication. She told me that teachers can't leave to answer phone calls (which she needs to be in the classroom, that's fine)and are to busy to write a note back. Don't enroll your child in this school if you value education!!!
Pre K teachers amazing after that all goes away. Classes are too big teachers don't have time for one on one. Class rooms are too small for 35 kids in one class. Principal does not communicate well with the parents.
This is one school where you have wonderful leadership and teachers who clearly put children first. The education they receive is second to none. I have two kids attending there, and absolutely love it!!!!
If you want a school where bullying is ignored and sour attitudes from teachers and students are the norm, then this is the school for you.
I love this school and so do my kids!! I have never found anything lacking, from teaching my children to excel in the class, classroom activities, Parent's Night, to the various sports programs offered. They are always kept busy, active, and happy. The entire staff is wonderful, everyone is friendly, and are continually watching out for our children, and looking for new and better ways to help them meet their goals, and excel academically, physically, and socially. Thank you so much for all you guys do.
Switched my children from Crosby Park. More caring & sincere here. All 3 of my children's teachers are fantastic & care about their education & well being. Mrs. Coy, Mrs. Sims, Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Heckert & their assistants have all been great. I just wish that they had more curricular activities. Overall, 100X better than Crosby Park!
I love this school. Ms. Coleman & Ms. Tally are amazing! Thank you Flower Mound!
My son goes to this school. Of course every parent thinks their kids are smart but i can honestly say my child is beyond his age level and I owe it to Flower Mound! We have a school right around the corner from our house but I drive 15 minutes to take him. Its worth the extra time and gas!
I have my kids in this school. The teachers are great with all the students. It's the best choice I have made for my kids.
The best decision I ever made was to send my daughter to Flowermound. We moved from Dallas where she was in Montessori schools, and I was concerned about her development in Lawton. She started Pre-K at Flowermound and is now entering the second grade. I couldn't be happier. Not only are her grades wonoderful, she is encouraged to excell in areas of special interest to her. Additionally, the school celebrates diversity. The before and aftercare programs are a blessing. Plus, the school is small enough that everyone, staff, teachers and students, knows and looks out for your child. I almost hate to post this review, as it might be more advantageous to the Flowermound family to keep our little school house a secret -- enrollment is starting to sky rocket.
I sent my kids here for two years because I heard it was a great school. When I switched them out because of disagreement with staff, I found out how behind they are compared to the Lawton Public schools. I wish I would have never started them there. My kids are exceling at there new school and are much happier.
