Im a 2005 alumni and i loved LHS while i was there. i would have to say that it is was you make it. I was involved in a lot of activities: Band Geeks Rules and stomp team was awesome! i was there before they moved the 9th graders up, so im unsure of how the change has effected the school. i do plan to go back and visit one day and see the old teachers that led me to the career path i have chosen. i am currently a senior in college and plan on graduating with a degree in biology education, so hopefully i can be as great of a teacher and role model as my favorites. Most of my teacher's worked with me if i asked, and LHS is definitely a school filled with pride! Also, great principle my final year.
I am going to be a senior next year, and my class is the first class that has gone to LHS for 4 yrs. I love LHS. The security, I must admit, are not very strict; however, even though everybody thinks we need it, there is nothing to be scared about. DO NOT WORRY. I'm currently doing concurrent enrollment and college is a breeze.
This is a wonderful school. I transfer from LHS to a school in GA and was way ahead of my peers. That foundation was so important. I highly recommend this school for academics, school spirit, and caring teachers.
Lawton High's education value is very poor and doesn't prepare students for college.
I feel security at LHS is as good as it can be in this day & age. Not because of police officers or metal detectors but because the faculty, staff, and administration take the time to get to know the students at LHS. For the most part students feel a civic responsibility to inform the appropriate personnel if an unsafe situation occurs. You have to build a community with everyone involved to have a safe environment and LHS does an exceptional job of this. Once A Wolverine Always A Wolverine.
Truth about the security? The guards stand at the front doors and each time I walk in they are gathered around a different pretty teenaged girl giggling like they are little boys. How can they provide security? No really I do mean every time! My daughter said it is an everyday thing. The school overall is a dreary place where good kids pay the price for the bad kid's mistakes. And they do not enforce a dress code. The gang bangers wear oversized clothes and so do the goths. They're more than capable of concealing weapons. The teachers? Well they don't seem to care. And the superintendent doesn't respond to his emails concerning the running of LPS.
I think that Lawton High is a school full of tradition and pride. Students feel welcomed and a part of the Wolverine family as soon as they enter!
As a teacher at LHS I am very proud to be a part of this school ... the students are willing to work and also willing to have fun after school ... check out our website www.lhswolverines.org ... for more information.
I think that Lawton High is a great school where once you walk in you see a big family, and tons of school spirit. I love the administrators and the teachers. I have attended Lawton High since I was a sophomore, and I have always thought of it as a great school. I remember when I was little and I used to go to LHS football games. I have always been a wolverine and 'Once a Wolverine, Always a Wolverine'.
I think that Lawton high school is a great school to go to for a variety of thing. Its better than the other two high schools that really dont take pride in what they have. Lawton high has high spirit and lots of love. Go lawton high!
