My son was a transfer student due to a military move. We found MacArthur HS to be overall a good school with many good teachers who try their hardest with the students. I give Mr. Hatch, the band instructor, and all the AP teachers many stars for being fair and preparing my son for college. I did have a small problem when I first enrolled him and they didn t want to put him in the AP classes because he didn t have the prerequisites required at THIS school. I made them to put him in (their comment was that he could always back down to the lower class) and he got all A s. The other bigger issue is the JROTC program at MacArthur lacks leadership. They do not care about the children and show extreme favoritism. Too bad because JROTC can be a really good program.

Mac is the best school in Lawton, and one of the best in Oklahoma. It rules Lawton, because it is so good. Yet, it really doesn't have much competition in Lawton.

My son went through all the grades in the lawton public schools and his experiences with teachers at the high school varied widely in terms of their involvement with students, competency, and ability to administer discipline in the classroom. Koodos to mrs. Hernandez in the art dept. Thank you to mrs. Shorter, the high school student advisor for helping our son make good choices in class selections that would help him in college. Our son was fortunate in being able to take most of the advanced placement classes. He had a caring teacher who, while serving the military,he drove 90 miles, many nights, preparing him for placing out of college physics. He placed out of 9 hours! as he heads to ou now, he's reasonably prepared. Wish mhs called for more parent involvement.
