WE JUST MOVED TO THIS SCHOOL A FEW WEEKS AGO AND BOTH OF MY KIDS ARE SPECIAL NEEDS....THE TEACHERS THAT THEY HAVE GOTTEN ARE GREAT IF THERE IS A QUESTION ABOUT ANYTHING INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR P/T CONF. THEY EMAIL ME OR CALL ME IMMEDIATELY TO GET AN ANSWER OR IF MY CHILD SAYS TO THE TEACHER MY MOM MAY HAVE QUESTIONS, INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR ME TO GET AROUND TO CALLING THEM, THEY CALL ME. I LOVE IT, THE SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHERS ARE ON THE BALL WITH EVERYTHING AND MY CHILDREN ACTUALLY GET TO DO SPECIAL OLYMPIC WITH THE SCHOOL INSTEAD OF MY JUST BEING THERE COACH THEY ARE FINALLY MAKING FRIENDS AND WORKING ON THEIR SOCIAL SKILLS.

We have not had the attendance issue. No matter where you go, there is always an incompetent employee. Our daughter is a transfer student; I was very impressed with the teachers we met. They each took an effort to outline many details and expectations, and they were all very friendly and genuine. It has every bit of character and honors as Westmoore, but it just hasn't gained the recognition yet b/c of how new this school is. I think another asset is that the schools that feed into Southmoore are in great neighborhoods with wonderful people. I have not met one staff member or student there that was anything but friendly.

Im not happy about the ability to take correct attendance either. My daughter had the same problem. They also charge you $500 to be in band & you must attend every function or they give you an F (not explained when signing up). The one on one help is nonexistant but instead say to take work home & ask your parent to help you.

The new school is beautiful. Not happy with teachers ability to take correct attendance, my student being marked absent from class on numerous occassions when he is sitting there and this has happened since the school opened. Can't get any help in correcting the problem. Very happy that sports coaches stress academics over athletics - don't make the grades then you don't play which is the way it should be.

About the tests

In 2008-2009 Oklahoma used the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests End-of-Instruction (OCCT EOI) exams to test students in high school in several subjects. The results for reading and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The OCCT EOI is a high school graduation requirement. The OCCT EOI exams are standards-based tests, which means they measure specific skills defined for each subject by the state of Oklahoma. The goal is for all students to score at or above the satisfactory level on the test.
