Not many current reviews of this school may be due to the fact that many homes do not have internet. The principal for the last two years is one of the hardest and most dedicated I have every seen. He is at school about 6:00 and works long days. Teachers are experienced dedicated partners who expect students to achieve greatness and will pull students up and not push them away. If you have not been inside this school the last two years, please visit, look, learn. You will love a Friday assembly that is exciting, positive, partially student lead, and designed to let every student know how important they all are. Heronville has over 900 students and ready to soar like an eagle. I am proud and happy to be a Heronville Eagle educator.
The teachers are very caring and nurturing to the students. They do all they can to work past the language barriers with students. The extracurricula activities are awesome. The students enjoy physical education, art, music, library, and computers. One down side is the lack of recess. Perhaps in the future recess will be brought back.
Heronvill has it's problems like any other organization, but the teachers work their butts off at that school; just to stay even with the english speaking schools. I've had two of my girls attend Heronville, I think they both received sufficient educations.
I have 2 grandchildren at Heronville. What is Angels Martinez talking about? all the teachers I have seen have been up on their feet teaching. I visit all the time. Maybe her student just gets in trouble or something. As far as knowing how children are doing, parents get progress reports every 6 weeks or so. This is a requirement for the teachers, so that is one way YOU can keep up with how your child is doing in school..also, you can work with them at home! I know what my grandkids know or don't know because I work with them every week.
Overall, I would have to say most of the staff are great. I think Ms. Manley is the best principal they have had in the past few years. There are some wonderful teachers here. The only real problem at this school seems to be that alot of the children don't speak English well, or their parents don't. I don't mean for that to be offensive, but it does seem to bring down test scores and slow class progress.
I feel that this school is not the school you should want your child attending if you care about education and realize that the first years are crucial. I have been inside this school and the classroom when allowed by principal and my husband has also observed what goes on inside the classroom. IT'S NOT GOOD! The kid's are so loud and the teacher stands up at the board for maybe at maximum 3 minutes and tells these third graders a list of things to get done for the day. Thats all fine but don't you think they should write it down on the board. I mean come on their only 8. Another thing is that since we frequently communicate with the teacher we often are concerned about how they are doing in class and if they are keeping up on work, turns out the TEACHER says 'no idea' ironic huh?
