Heritage Hall

Heritage Hall has been an excellent place for my child. The teachers are wonderful. They are very attentive to each child's specific needs and are always available for whatever task. My child feels comfortable asking for assistance when needed. It has been a good fit for my child.

I just graduated from hh in may. I was there for three years. Every year things seamed to get worse. The classes became more crowded, the new teachers never taught us, one even had us watch YouTube in class everyday. The high rate to turnover keeps the good teachers from returning. The sports kids get away with everything while the kids who focus on academics are pestered and get in trouble for stupid things. Do not send your children here!

Amazing school. My son attends this school, and has found the focus is not simply on sports as suggested by the other reviews. He is an avid member of the debate team, the second or third best in the state, is part of the honors society, and also takes an intrest in drama, which is a huge part of this school.

Heritage Hall was not the right fit for my child. My daughter was only in Lower School there and ended up wishing she had never asked to stay. Everything seems to focus on the athletics department, which is not why I send my daughter to school. I send her to school to receive a proper education while learning the life skills that she will need for the future and this school was not our answer. I would not recommend sending your child here.

HH is amazing. I cannot imagine sending my children anywhere else. My children have thrived and continue to thrive each year. The individualized education for the children would be impossible to find elsewhere. HH focusses on leadership, service and the love of learning. The children are aware of this at a very young age. It is a precious, safe environment that is academically excellent in all areas!

I attended Heritage Hall for 8 years, was a National Merit Scholar, and went on to be very successful at a prestigious university. I now work in education and study teacher training and effectiveness and student achievement throughout the country. From an alumni perspective, Heritage gave me everything I needed and more to be successful in college. From the perspective of someone whose job it is to study schools and their teachers, Heritage is an example of what great education looks like. At a school which boasts many excellent programs and dedicated leadership, I look back most fondly on the teachers I had at Heritage. They were intelligent, dedicated, creative, and positive, and I credit them with much of the success I've had since graduating. This is an excellent school, and I feel very blessed to have attended it.

When I rate this school as average, remember tuition is high, so this school should easily rate Excellent. I am a former teacher in the Upper School as well as a parent of a former Lower School student. During my time there, I saw many children who were indulged at home and never corrected at school. Snobbery, privilege, and disrespect ran rampant. The children of donors could get away with anything. The headmaster typifies the lack of morals and integrity of the school. There are some teachers that genuinely care about the students and the small class sizes can help, but this school does not live up to its public image or potential. For most students, it is a training ground for future politicians, socialites, and swindling CEO's.

My three have attended Heritage Hall. There is too much fluff and not enough substance. Stop trying to build resumes already and focus on the kids.

My two boys love going to school at Heritage Hall. The preschool building is state of the art and the teachers there are top notch. They encourage the students to learn and always take a positive approach to any discipline issues. The teachers strive to provide a learning environment that is safe and conducive to learning and are always available to me as a parent.

This is our second year at HH for our daughter in the high school level and our first for our 2 sons in the middle school. We believe this school is, by far excellent is so many ways. It encourages well-rounded students who are exposed to not only team sports but also the arts. Faculty, in general, are very supportive of the students and the parents. Like many schools, there are isolated occurrences when we have not agreed with a teacher or staff member and they could have handled the situation in a better manner. Nevertheless the small classroom size, their striving to improve in many areas, their improved communications, are all positives. My kids will be ready for success in some great universities.

My three children have attended middle and upper school at Heritage Hall. They have received exceptional instruction at both levels. In addition to the academics they have enjoyed the extra-curricular sports programs that have allowed them to get to know their peers better outside of the classroom setting.

Our child's teacher was removed from her classroom midday this year. This was a teacher whom all the parents and children loved. This teacher taught math, reading, science and social studies through real-life activities. Her classroom included gardening vegetables, tadpoles, praying mantis', ladybugs and chicks. she taught students about botany, biology, physics and chemistry. She taught students about art history and world languages. The school will never be able to replace her.

Checking back through all the posts, I found an '07 post stating, 'the landscape is dotted with unqualified teachers.' I found that my 2 daughters' teachers wrote in sentence fragments, did not always have sv agreement and must misspelled many many words. They seemed confused when asked about curriculum content.

I agree with the last poster about the new headmistress, however, I must say my childrens' teachers are good. The headmistress is pretty hard-nosed and down right rude.

As a lower school parent, I am very disheartened with the school environment my children have experienced this year. HH used to be such a warm, inviting place filled with happy children, happy parents, happy teachers and a happy headmistress. I'm sorry to say this year is completely different. The entire ambiance of the lower school seems dreary and unstimulating. There's a new head in town and her communication skills and people skills are horrible. You would think a private school would place higher value on public relations. We are not renewing our contracts as long as she is there.

I have 2 daughters in the Lower School at HH and I am very pleased with the school. It surpassed my expectations! My children feel safe, valued and are challenged to always learn more! Thanks to the wonderful faculty and staff!

As a former student I would say the biggest problem with Heritage Hall is that the students have their goals set too low. While most college prep schools ship students to Ivy League schools, Northwestern, Vandy, Duke etc., Heritage Hall lacks in this department. Sure 99.99% of graduates go on to college, but 75% go to OU. There are a few students each year that go to prestigious schools, but I feel that the average student does not aspire to this. I would attribute the 'public school education for a private school price' description to this. If the kids only want to go to OU, then why make the curriculum challenging? However, I did enjoy my time at HH, and considering the other education opportunities, it is one of the best schools to attend in the city and state.
