This school has a ways to go... The office staff is very disorganized and does not follow its own discipline procedures (in the handbook). The discipline is horrible...mostly because the students aren't adequately screened and they get lots of kids who have been "kicked out" of multiple other schools. They have some bright students, but they have an overwhelming number of "low performing" students who lower the standard and make the curriculum "less than challenging" for the smarter kids. The school does a good job of hosting speakers and events geared towards "black pride", but falls short on making sure that all students can pass State Testing. Instead, they say the tests are "racially biased" and dismiss the results. Until this school gets a handle on the discipline issues, hires some para-professionals to help the classroom teachers in ALL grades, and makes the curriculum more rigorous, the students here will NOT be prepared to go to high school let alone any college/university!

I have been satisfied with this school and the black pride that it exuberates and tries to pass on to our students. MGLCS has an excellent warm and caring staff that has been very supportive. I would definately recommend this school. Parent, Ms. Vaughn

I have been pretty satisfied with this school in regards to taking the initiative in corporating strong black history ties in their curriculum. I am very active in my child's academics and feel that majority of the reading and math materials presented are not adequate in terms of preparing our students for the state tests. Like any school, there are different students at various different levels and although the school has introduced a tutoring program, I do not feel it is enough. There needs to be funding to provide EACH teacher with a competent assistant to assist those students who need a little one on one. There also needs to be more PARENT involvement. MGLCS has done a great job in hosting activities to help promote and generate parent involvement.
