Our elementary school was lucky enough to get a wonderful woman as the new principle. She has been in this school district and at this site in particular for more than 30 years. She has been a classroom teacher and knows what is needed to turn around all the bad gossip that seems to follow our school around. Parents, students, and teachers alike will notice a major change this school year and it is going to be wonderful!

okmulgee elementary can have a few mean teachers but the school is really interesting but theres a few bad things one is that we had some heavyset math teachers and the students like to make fun of them and i dont know why but it is not funny

This school has a new principal and they have made a lot of good changes. There is alot of economic and racial diversity. The computer lab is great. The teacher for high disability children is wonderful. They have a lot of teachers who work with children who are pulled out of the class for special help. The GT program is weak and has not been a priority. They have a great show choir program only at this school. There is no art teacher. This school needs more parent involvement to really push its needs in the district. There are many good teachers. My kids each attended three years and did not have a bad teacher. They have to do heavy discipline and the class sizes are too big. The social education of getting along with all kinds of kids is something that they can't get anywhere else.

If you have an above agerage or special needs child this is not the school for them. The easy to learn children are held back and even the simplest, cost free, needs of the speciel needs children are not met. It is run with dicipline first, education last. Fun doesn't even seem to be in the vocabulary. Respect is demanded of the students but not given to them. The good teachers (yes there are always good and bad) are ober shadowed by the bad teachers, or worse run off by the districs administration for caring about their students.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Oklahoma used the Oklahoma Core Curriculum Tests (OCCT) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science and writing. The OCCT is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oklahoma.
