My children went to Woodlawn for a year then we moved to Lonestar district. I checked out both schools. And Woodlawn beats Lonestar by far. The teachers at Woodlawn are about helping the children learn. This school has wonderful teachers and a excellent leadership. And with parent involvment, your child will succeed in his/her school work.
Things have changed - administration and school board good ole boys have almost succeeded in destroying this school system. If you have no choice but to send your children to Sapulpa Schools insist that they go to Jefferson Heights, Freedom, or Washington. I have moved my children to another district.
Woodlawn is the best school in Creek County, Oklahoma. It is competitive with many of the elementary schools in highly rated school districts in Oklahoma. As an involved parent there are many great things happening at Woodlawn. The parent-teacher organization (TAPS) has done more this year than in the previous 4 years that I have been involved. I see more parents involved, we have community leaders mentoring children, and we have volunteers in the building tutoring children in reading and math under the guidance of some classroom teachers wanting their students to succeed in life, not necessarily on a state test. Mrs. Arnold is completing her third year and has with the support of some parents and the administration issued a challenge to Woodlawn parents to strive for a perfect rating at a TAPS meeting. The TAPS organization plans to improve Woodlawn even more so in the 2007-2008 school year.
My family and I have had a great experience at Woodlawn. The teachers are caring and seem to love teaching at Woodlawn. There are many opportunities for parental involvment, including a parent teacher organization, family fun nights, a mentoring program, and a Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) program. I enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the DOGS program, and my children loved family fun night this year. Kristin Arnold has been an excellent principal and has always welcomed me to the school when I visit. I would recommend this school to anyone moving to the district.
I am not only a proud Woodlawn teacher, but I also attended this school as a child and am happy that my own children have the opportunity to attend this school. The administration is very supportive and offers many opportunities for professional development throughout the year. Kristin Arnold, the principal, is always open to new ideas and creative teaching practices. We offer many ways for the community to become involved in the school and offer additional activities throughout the year such as girls' and boys' basketball, chess club, Saturday school, Junior Achievement, accelerated reader program, Girl/Boy Scouts, talent show, field trips, and field day. Woodlawn is one of the best schools in the district and I am pleased to be a part of this wonderful community of educators and students.
Contrary to the previous comment, I feel that Woodlawn is an excellent school. The teachers have been encouraging to my son and have been very supportive in helping him with some academic problems. His teacher has been willing to go above and beyond to help him achieve success. She tries to make things interesting and fun. I couldn't have asked for better teachers. Perhaps if the woman's attitude were better, her child wouldn't be feeling that way. I'm very glad my child is at Woodlawn--it's the best!
Woodlawn is an excellent school. The teachers are caring and experienced. The students show progress with the highest test scores in the county. The students are well behaved and enjoy school. The parent group is well organized and includes the Watch Dog program and a mentoring program.
I think Woodlawn is a wonderful school and that the principal and staff are patient, knowledgeable, and capable professionals. The staff at Woodlawn has high expectations and strive to help all children reach their potential. I am proud that my child is being challenged and taught to be an intelligent, thoughtful, and productive citizen.
I think principal and teachers do a fantastic job preparing our students to be successful not only academically, but also social and emotionally. Since Sapulpa has recently redistrict their boundary lines I am being sent to another school, but will find transportation just so my children can continue their education at Woodlawn Elementary.
Woodlawn is an excellent school! When my husband and I were purchasing a home, we intentionally bought a home in Woodlawn's district, even though a brand new school had been built nearby. Woodlawn has an excellent administrator, Kristin Arnold, who truly cares about the students and their families, their safety, education, and happiness. The teachers are creative and enthusiastic and always seek additional enrichment opportunities through grants, additional education, and national accreditation. Woodlawn has many opportunities for parental and community involvement, such as an active Parent-Teacher program, Dads of Great Students program, and mentoring program. This school focuses on not only the basics such as reading, writing, and math, but also character development and career awareness. Three generations in my family have attended Woodlawn, including my father, me, and now my children. I wouldn't have it any other way!
