My first year of involvement with Hall Halsell, I absolutely despised it. Our 4K teacher allowed students to walk all over her. They have since changed principals and I hear that things in that class are different. Our 1st and 2nd grade teachers have been much better. However, I am still concerned with many of the workings in the school, including the actual involvement of the principal with many of the things going on in the school. I can, however, see great progress in many areas and I attribute that to the creative ways the teachers teach. My main concern is the learning that's gone on when teachers aren't paying enough attention.
This elementary has worked diligently to improve the school at all levels. They are open and interested in every child learning. Hall Halsell is one of the first preschool programs in the nation to receive NAEYC accreditation for its preschool program.
I am very impressed with this elementary school. The administration is fair and honest. The teacher's are kind and professional. There have been many building improvements over the past 2 years. The new P.E. and Music building is awesome! I know many of the teacher's are using the Great Expectations program in their classes. My son's Kindergarten/1st grade teachers have both been Great Expecations teachers. The Parent-Teacher Organization is strong and dedicated! Volunteers are encouraged and welcomed here. The teacher's are committed to keeping kids safe and ensuring that learning is taking place. Procedures that ensure safety and learning are evident everywhere you go. I appreciate the teachers being consistent with procedures. The 'lights out' policy in the cafeteria only happens when kids become too loud that it is a safety concern. Choking is a concern in the cafeteria so quiet restaraunt voices are encouraged and used. We love this school!
As a parent, I was very disappointed in the administration at this specific school. The overall moral with students is extremely low and the principal doesn't seem to relate well with their specific needs. Students in K-2nd should still enjoy going to school not dread all the screaming from faculity and 'lights out' in the lunchroom for talking with their neighbors.
