- a teacher
Our school houses second, third, and multi-handicapped classrooms in our district. We were recently the recipients of a state award for having been the most successful with state test scores three years in a row. While we work hard to be successful as teachers and students, it does not come cheaply for us. As with a lot of districts, teachers spend a large amount of their own money to purchase classroom items, curriculum materials, rewards, and supplemental items. We also pay for our own lunches. Oklahoma teachers are almost bottom of the pay scale in the U.S. so the extra spending is truly from the heart and hard on the pocketbook. We have highly dedicated teachers in our building! I feel we could use the money to purchase more hands-on items for our classes. The Common Core suggests we use more of these type lessons, however, those are often the items we can't afford to purchase. With this money I know we could be even more successful and hopefully earn another state award.
