McKinley has a multitude of different cultures attending school. This offers students at a young age to understand and learn about geography and other global opportunities. McKinley also promotes being responsible, respectful and being safe, 'rules' that should be ingrained into everyone!

My little 5-year old niece thinks her school is 'super fun.' How wonderful that she loves school at such a young age!

My 1st grader child moved to McKinley in March. I am so pleased with the academic expectations at this school! The homework is more challenging than his previous school and his reading skills have improved so much in just the 2 months that he has been here.

My 1st Grader has not learned anything new this year in reading, writing, or math. I previously home schooled and wanted to put him in 2nd grade. He could academically could have even been in 3rd, but that's jumping too far ahead. The principal refused to let him skip or even review his skills! She said he's 1st grade age appropriate, so that's where he'll be. He has been bored and unchallenged. I feel we have wasted a year of precious learning.

I am a parent of Mc Kinley first grader. I am very dissapointed with the way academic programs are at McKinley. I wish there was better leadership from Mc Kinley principal. The extracurricular activities are offered to a very limited circle of students.

I find the academic programs challenging for my first grader and I am pleased with the communication from school officials. I appreciate the availability and incorporation of the music and arts programs as regular activities.I am a single dad of two and have attended several of the afterschool events and find them well organized and have enjoyed the interaction with the other parents in attendance. I would encourage those parents who haven't yet attended to come I believe you'll have a positive experience.

Acedemic programs low. School focuses on 'life skills' such as sharing, non- bullying ect.. This takes priority over actual learning. Math is very much egnored at mckinley in grades 1-3. Great music teachers and programs. Very good with family art night. Does not have a very large participation from student's parents for school activities. Parent involvement low.

About the tests

In 2009-2010 Oregon used the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 7 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 10 in science. The OAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oregon. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
