A few of the other comments hit straight home! This school has its pros and cons but my child will not be returning! Very sad.... i had high hopes from everything i was told about this school. Whenever there is a problem the teachers trash the child and won't listen and then call the child a liar! It's backwards! They should be there for the whole child! It is their job.... there is alot of scams and dishonest. Unless your child Is perfect do all you can tho keep them as far away as you can!
Our son has attended Tumalo for the last two years. His teachers helped him catch up over a year of math instruction he was behind, as well as encouraging a new-found love of reading. We are super happy with the teachers, principal and all the parental and community support. It has a rural country-school feel that we so appreciate - especially through the middle-school years.
I've had my boys here at this school for the past two years and we love it. I volunteer every week and see the commitment and love that the principal, staff and teachers have for the kids. It feels really good here. The teachers are very committed and keep their classes under control, and do it with a smile. They are pros. My boys now love to read and have moved up reading groups since being here.
I am an 8th grader at HDMS and I went to this school from 1st grade to 5th. When i went there the teachers and principal and every staff member was amazing and caring and nice. But lately i heard they have gotten a new principal that parents are not fond of. I just want to say don't hate the school. it's an amazing school it's just the new people who work there now that are ruining it.
This school was my home for five years. It is an amazing, fun place to be. I love it's small, encouraging environment. All of the teachers love to be there and teach. They gave me just the education and accommodation I needed. I am an eighth grade student.
My son has had some problems in school, but has had help from the school in trying to improve his social skills. He has been given an IEP and put in a social skills group. I think sometimes that more can be done to help rather than just labeling him a "problem student" and being shuttled to detention. However, most of the teachers are good and it's not their fault that they have so many other students to deal with that it makes it hard for them to take time with the students who need the most help and attention. My daughter loves going to this school and has had no problems at all here. The librarians and reading teachers are especially beloved by both of my children. All the fundraising can be draining for those families who are financially strapped. The community is very supportive of this school. We love the front desk staff as they are very pleasant and helpful as well.
My son was a new student to this School last year and hated it, came home almost every night telling me how his teacher ignores him and does not help him when he needs help, his teacher's answer to my son is "its your problem" and when he would go to other teachers they treated him as a lier. When we talked to his teacher he attempted to say my son was making up things. We then went to the principal who's response to this was refering my son to the school councelor. If a child hates having to go to school every morning then thermust be something wrong!! This school needs teachers that care and love teaching, a leader(principal) who will take matters into affect by adressing the real issues by what is best for the students not "the school". I have been on the phone with the teacher, principal and counselor and its just a BAD SCHOOL
My son hates this school. It's sad to say, but what might have been a good school in the past is no longer. There is a new principal that is beyond awful, quite tragic as the former did an excellent job. Redmond School district is in such financial mess (think massive unfunded pension obligations) that very little money is getting to the classrooms. The classrooms are over crowded, the teachers stressed and not performing. They have a massive busing scam because the district needs the money. They bus kids over an hour. Seems illogical, but they do it because even though the classrooms are filled the district needs the extra funds to pay for past financial promises. As a family we are sad that we will have to endure a move just to get our children out of a really bad situation. I would have never in a million years thought this public school would be so horrible, as our whole family is very supportive of public education, but the sad fact is it is just a poorly run district and it's finally trickled down and poisoned the school. Really disappointed, sigh packing is no fun.
I have been involved with this school for the past 5 years and I love it! There is a definite sense of community.
This is a great school. Great parents with lots of involments by volunteers. Great teachers with same small community values. Staff is excellent and very welcoming.
