Dome School has raised so many young people to think for themselves, be community oriented, and have interests beyond themselves. The school involves parents and the community, and is a living example of 'it takes a village to raise a child.' My daughter went there many years ago, and I am still taking pride in the quality of students and the dedication of the staff.

I have been teaching at the Dome School for six years. My son has been a student there for eight! Our low student/teacher ratio allows us to address children's individual needs and learning styles. Our program is enriched by the involvement of families and community members. Our emphasis is 'hands-on' learning and fostering loving, caring community. Our school is in the woods. What more could you want!

The Dome School was by far was the best education my daughter's had to date (she's in 9th grade). It's small group learning with lots of individual attention. Kids teaching kids. Parents utilized as teaching resources, tutors, cooks and mentors. Lots of unstructured outdoor time where the kids are creative and all play with, and take care of, eachother. Everyone helps run the school - the parents, teachers and kids. The paid staff facilitate each day of learning, taking advantage of the individual genius and talents contributed by parents, students and community volunteers that makes the curriculum each day unique, heartfelt and fresh. It's the kind of school all parents would want to send their kids to, but public school has become so bound by procedures and standards that the learning - both socially and academically - often gets lost. The teachers work incredibly hard - not just teaching, but coordinating fundraising events, and sharing their classroom so that it becomes a community center on the weekends. This school is an integral fixture of the heart of this little community. It's the little train that does and a little more support for it would help the school immensely. Because everyone is there to take care of eachother - academically and socially, there's lots of individual attention when a child needs it. It also means that kids need to learn to get along with eachother and a lot of different kinds of adults, because volunteers aren't treated like volunteers - they are integrally involved with each child and the curriculum . The effects of learning to respectfully respond to many different folks was as important to my daughter's learning as the '3Rs'.

The Dome School is a central part of our local community, integrating children with the real world they live in. Children are not side-lined or wharehoused, but are at the middle of everything. I think a lot of these kids will grow up feeling very comfortable participating in their world and making change.

I love the Dome School, because the children get the attention they need from staff and parents. Emotional turmoil and growing pains are not overlooked or suppressed. The children are accepted WHOLE, for where they are at on any particular day. Children change so fast. It is a pleasure to watch them grow!

The personal attention and creative mix of culture and practical science make the Dome School truly outstanding. This starts with the innovative, yet grounded, pre-kindergarden program and continues through the primary grades. The knowledge and skills of the older students is impressive. The number of these kids that go on to receive honors from the high school is legendary.
