Amount of homework: Too much
July 10, 2015
I say "too much" as a student who has taken the most difficult classes. There is a certain degree of flexibility depending on how motivated you are academically, but if you really want all the best, you've got to work HARD. Some assignments may seem trivial at times, but they all work together for a larger goal: to produced a well-educated mind. For many the workload may seem too great, to others just right, but regardless, ACE is a place for those who CARE about learning and want to get the most out of a book they possibly can.

Develops grit: Agree

ACE requires determination and persistence. Teachers do a good job of encouraging students on a weekly basis, whether in the form of a well-deserved congratulations or the occasional delectable treat. Punctual and passing work is rewarded with bookstore gift cards for those who meet the requirements. But ACE is still a fair amount of work, and a certain degree of self-motivation is necessary to be truly successful.

Develops respect: Strongly agree

Yes, ACE is a very respectful place, to put is succinctly. In the Rhetoric, or high school level, debate and argument is a central part of the curriculum. Students are challenged to get their point across in a respectful manner that empowers other students to do the same. Throughout all the levels, the acute attention to character and the great breadth of books read contributes to this atmosphere of respect and tolerance.

Develops empathy: Strongly agree

Again, the character curriculum of ACE constantly reinforces and instills noble virtues in its students. Traits such as Compassion and Tolerance cultivate an understanding and caring atmosphere that results in a school where students help lift each other up.

Develops honesty: Strongly agree

The foundation of ACE is rooted in character. All students are taught about many different character traits throughout the year and have corresponding homework activities that reinforce the trait. Integrity is central to ACE, and it is always reinforced in the instruction of each subject from Science to Latin.

Excellent academics and instructors, but the curriculum is challenging and is no easy task to complete. The classical influence is warmly welcomed as an alternative and still very valid way to educate students. I have learned so much at this school, but the work load can be taxing at times. Of course that somewhat depends on the level of classes you desire at the high school level. If your willing to work hard and put in the time you will excel at ACE.

Teacher effectiveness: Very effective

All the teachers genuinely care about not only the subject matter, but also how students are learning.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
