This school is full of good kids and teachers. With the addition of three new teachers over the last 2 years the academics have gone from low/mediocre to fully great in a short amount of time. That's two new math teachers and one new science teacher. The new Principal is pretty good in the fact that she is more academically oriented than prior Principals which is a good change for these kids.

Academics at Crane is average at best. Math and science seem to be the hardest position to make students competitive at higher levels. Very little music, no art at all, but sports seem to rule. Good, strong FFA program, great wood shop and welding/mechanics, but still sports gets all the emphasis. Crane has a strong athletic history. Parent involvement is difficult as most students board on campus due to distances. Parent's that live close are involved somewhat. New superintendent this year might help, but time will tell.

I have two children who have attended Crane High School...one graduated in 1998 and will complete Physical Therapy school and return to Burns to practice in 2006. My daughter will graduate this year and wants to be a neonatal nurse. We have students working as teachers, nurses, research biologists, and numerous other professions so coming from a small rural school has not limited students' career pursuits. The key is the camaraderie among staff and students, as well as parents who drop everything to attend games and activities and support their children. Great school!

Crane may be a small school but it is represented greatly by an outstanding group of students, staff, and parents. Crane is a public boarding school. Dorm life at Crane differs greatly from life at home but the dorm staff works hard to make it comfertable environment. With such a small community most of the students choose to participate in extraciricular actives therefore making the school very envoled. School spirit skyrockets here as spirit week is not only a competion of the classes but a unification period for the whole school.

Crane is a great school. The small class size helps with student teacher interaction. Plus about 90% of the school is in athletics so they are all pretty much fit. At crane 2/3 of the students live in a dormatory so they have a jump start when it comes to living in a college dorm.
