Great school. Students are assessed multiple times per year and parents are informed of what they need to do in order to meet expectations or how to continue to excel. Times are tight for Dallas School district, but Lyle continues to put its' best foot forward.

I am a parent who has had 2 children pass through Lyle and now have another in third grade. Over these past 9 years of dealing with Lyle, we have seen a steady decline in nearly every aspect of the school. Many of the parents we interact with have also complained about the state of Lyle. We, in fact, had our oldest daughter labled by Lyle's 'special ed.' teacher as being autistic while in the second grade, only to find out 6 years later this was absolutely false. Anger and frustration don't begin to desribe our feelings. Administration at Lyle failed to step up and accept responsibility or even aknowledge any wrong-doing. We are forced to send our kids through this school due to where we live and not being able to afford private school. Thank goodness Lyle is now only K-3!

We have had our daughter in Lyle for 3 years, beginning in Kindergarten. While I know there are several wonderful teachers, and the staff is quite friendly, there seems to be an overwhelming feeling of a sinking ship there. I asked for a curriculum when she began 1st grade, and was shown a copy dating back to 1998. They haven't updated it for a decade, and there is a real disconnect between grades as to what the kids are being taught; no cohesion between the teachers or subjects from Kindergarten, to 1st to 2nd, and now that she's entering 3rd, we made the decision to pull her from Lyle and I will be home schooling her through a Virtual Online School, that will offer a much more challenging curriculum and offers actual standards for the kids to achieve, which Lyle lacks in spades.

This is a very parent friendly school. Involvement is highly encouraged. For an Oregon school, I would rate this one a good one (100% better than the school my children were in previously in the Salem-Keizer school district). The teachers and staff are very easy to talk to. My only concern is the heavy traffic along the two streets adjadent to the school that does not follow the 20-mile/hour speed limit (a lot of logging trucks and dump trucks as well as local traffic).

About the tests

In 2009-2010 Oregon used the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 7 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 10 in science. The OAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oregon. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
