Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

The Village School nourishes and engages the whole child/spirit. My child always wants to stay a little longer when the school day comes to an end. The community of parents, faculty and children work in a symbiotic way, making the flow of village school a natural extension of family life. The small class size allows a special bond between student and teacher that is truly rare these days. In addition, although the Village School is "Waldorf inspired", it is not as regimented and allows for a little more flexibility and growth. I feel blessed to be apart of such an inspired community.

What do I like about the Village School? Caring community, developmentally appropriate learning that integrates art and music throughout the school day, the fact that the children go outside and play every day, teachers who are accessible and involved, hardworking staff. Families are expected to volunteer throughout the year, which helps to keep everyone involved.

School focuses on the whole child: head , hands, and heart. Small class size, amazing staff, dedicated parents. Being a charter school, we get significantly less funding than regular public schools. With this challenge the staff agree to less pay and the parents agree to 40hrs volunteer time a year. The dedication to having the best interest for the children is strong and not fledging any time soon.

Village cares for the whole child; head, hands, and heart. The parents and teachers meet more than just a few times a year to ensure the highest level of communication. The students are not only educated, they are cared for. They are taught the value of community and how to create an environment thats safe and healthy. This year, when the school faced budget cuts, the teachers took voluntary pay cuts and insurance deductable increases to ensure that their class sized would not raise. The children are always the main priority.

village school is a bully free zone, the parents, teachers and students are a strong and vibrant community that works together and has very high expectations for student behavior. time is always alotted to address any issues that may be going on. these are taken seriously by all. in addition we are an arts integrated school inspired by the waldorf philosophy. we are able to bring the waldorf curriculum to the general public, free of charge. this curriculum integrates body mind and soul thru a dynamic interplay of arts, music and didactic learning. my children feel safe and inspired here. they never complain about school. the classrooms are small, allowing for all kids to know one another and most importantly for the teachers to know each child. by having a two year rotation the teachers are able to really engage each child as they get to know them over the two years. we love our school.

The Village School has formed a community of parents, teachers and friends who work together to ensure that our children receive a well-rounded education in which every child can excel. Music and art are woven throughout every day's lessons, which is rare in public schools these days. The children love it, and my daughter is thriving. I've never seen another school where the children WANT to hang around in the classroom after dismissal!

Because the teachers are great, they respect that each child has their own rate of learning, and learning style. They make learning fun, and they teach you to love to learn. There is a big focus on cooperation, and kids being nice to each other, and working things out if there is a problem.

The teachers are phenomenal - well trained, exceptionally dedicated, and experienced. Their purpose is to teach to the whole child, focusing on all learning styles, starting with a good relationship between student and teacher. Teachers create an exciting learning environment using a variety of traditional and new teaching techniques. Academics are emphasized, and reading, math, writing and verbal communication are at the core of educating each child. The school is Waldorf-based, and history comes alive with the captivating stories the teachers tell and the annual plays the kids create. Music and art are an important part of each child's education, including drawing, painting, knitting, marimba and guitar. Spanish is an important part of the curriculum from fourth grade on. In the middle-school grades, elective classes become important in creating a larger, enriching learning environment. Elective classes have included dance, clay, cooking, photography, acting, and sports, and enlist talented professionals from the wider Eugene community to help educate our kids. Teachers work with the kids on social issues, using different conflict resolution techniques, and may involve several kids or a whole classroom in a solution. Sometimes the school counselor is involved in resolving issues. Family involvement in the school is high. There are many shows and celebrations involving families, music, good food, and cultural diversity throughout the year. Village School is truly is an example of 'It takes a village to raise a child'.

A Waldorf inspired charter school, The Village school provides a loving and artistic environment for children in a world that has become to fast paced and clinical to allow the natural development of the healthy child. In spite of operating on only 70% of the budget allowed regular public schools, the students are thriving and have great test scores. We are so grateful this powerful alternative to the average public school education exists in our community. The parents are dedicated and work very hard to help make this school great.

Hands down, this is by far THE best school I have ever seen! The kids LOVE school here. My daughter is eager to learn - she can't wait to go to school each day (and I am not exaggerating). This is an arts-integrated school - they incorporate art into each and every aspect of learning. The parents are very involved, which is needed for a successful charter school. Last year, the kids raised $9,000 for water filters for children in Kenya by doing a walk-a-thon - one of my daughter's teachers spent several weeks this summer delivering the water filters and various other items that we were able to purchase for the kids with the surplus of money. This is a K-8 school, and I am amazed daily by the pre-teens who are so courteous and actually *talk* to adults, say thank you, and even hold door open for you. Also, bullying is absolutely not tolerated at the Village School. This should be a model for how schools should be. My brothers and I would have benefited greatly if we'd had the opportunity to attend a school like this.

I am delighted with the Village School community. Children are truly cherished at this school, and childhood is protected. Children are encouraged to bloom into the unique individuals they are, using 'head, hands, and heart' for a more holistic and balanced approach to learning. Children are more than just students at VS, they are part of a valued community.
