Gresham Arthur Academy

My two grand-daughters attend Gresham Authur Academy and I am so impressed with what they have learned. They started there in K and are now in the 1st and 3rd grade. I can't say enough good about your way of teaching the children and the staff of teachers. These teachers are so caring for the children and it shows...Thank you again....

Gresham Arthur Academy is a wonderful school full of caring and wonderful teachers! The 2011 district report card just came out and GAA and another elementary school were the only two in the whole district with an OUTSTANDING rating by the state! And they were rated outstanding last year too! Unlike another reviewer stated, there is an indoor recess area with balls/sports equipment for bad weather days - same area is also the cafeteria. And the playground which features a play structure, slides, swings, track, and basketball hoops is wonderful and only a 20 second walk across the parking lot, despite that reviewer's opinion. One thing I love about GAA is that there is one classroom per grade, so your child goes through the entire elementary school with the same classmates. It builds a wonderful stability and camaraderie within the students. My son has gone to GAA for 4 years and I'm so pleased with the learning environment. If you are considering GAA, I highly recommend calling them and seeing if there is an opening. It's a public charter school (which is pretty much a free private school!) and they do require uniforms (khaki or navy pants or skirt, white or navy shirts).

To the review who said there was not enough teachers to offer ind. help....There are more than enough. They have individual TA's for the younger classes for both reading and math. They get into groups of skill level of less than 10 to go through lesson together. Each kid is tested each week to see if they passed the weeks benchmarks. If they don't they have to redo that lesson. Not to mention that the classrooms typically have 24-27 kids in a class compared to the 38 that is in my neighbor boys class. So how is it that GAA could be lacking in teachers when their classrooms are smaller and they have extra help at math and reading....??

The playground is across the parking lot, but not 5 mins away...come on. My daughter went there from 3rd grade and recently moved onto middle school and now my son goes there and is kindergarten and loves it. He went from not knowing his ABC's very well to knowing and recognizing them and its only 4 months into the school year. He is reading sounds and knows each letters sound. The teachers are great and commited to teaching and love what they do. I love the school, my kids love the school and I wouldnt want them anywhere else.

The teachers are great, but there are not enough to provide skill leveled groups for all of the students. There is no indoor recess area. The playgound is located across a large church parking lot so that five minutes of recess time is spent walking to and from the playground.
