If your primary concern is to place your child in a safe nurturing environment then WUE is an excellent school. There is strong emphasis in teaching good behavior and fantastic community support. The school has an excellent music room, library & PE experience. If you're looking for an academic challenge I'd recommend looking around. The TAG coordinator believes advanced/gifted students should receive a standard curriculum. "We find that if advanced students are given a standard curriculum that the rest of the students catch up in a few years." As a parent of a kid who performs 3-4 grade levels above age in reading and math this is maddening. Of course if your plan is to not teach my kid for three years then, yes, everyone will catch up.

Children there are taught not only academics but also respect for themselves, for their peers and teachers and for learning.

My child has attended this school for 5 years, and the nurturing, creative environment along with exceptional, caring teachers have made this a wonderful fit for our family. With the opening of another district school last year, the enrollment has adjusted downward to its previous lower numbers. Teacher/student ratios are still as high as other district schools, but the school community makes the most of its resources. There are many teachers at West Union who have been at the school for 10+ years.

I was nervous sending my daughter to a public school. Prior to this year, she had attended private non-parocial school. West Union's teacher was master's prepared. I scheduled a private meeting with her, and she was great! The school has been wonderful. My only concern is the large number of students per teacher ratio. So far, that hasn't presented a problem

My daughter just started here as a Kindergartener. I don't know much about the school, other than it seems just fine. The teacher seems very dedicated and there is a real emphasis on creating a safe and supportive atmosphere. The only complaints I've heard are that the school building is old and in need of replacing (by parents) and (from my daughter) that she dislkes the kindergarten schedule. It is very sporadic as there is no K-bus to save over a million dollars a year in gas, so she goes full days W-F and alternate Mondays. Sporadic schedule is hard for my little one. They need regularity to feel really part of something. I didn't think it would be a big deal, but she complains so much about it, I'm afraid I made a mistake.

Both my children have attended this school and it is great school with high parent involvement and excellent teaching staff. The EC activities are not that important to us as we are looking to provide that outside of school, the education was quite good though.

The classrooms have too many kids in them, the teachers are spending more time trying to discipline the children than teaching them. Neither of my children are getting the skills they need, they don't get the help they want and the teachers are just too busy getting children to behave. I have had to quit my job and spend more time teaching them at home to keep them up with other peers outside of this school since we've moved here.

We had the best experience at this school. The teachers were not only knew what they were teaching, but they understood how different students learn. Also, they kept on top of problems between students, and took students feeling threatened seriously. I wish my own grade school had been as wonderful as my child's was. They really made school a safe place, and made my kids excited to learn. When we moved at the end of the school year, we applied to have the kids finish the school year here. It was worth it to take the extra trip to get them to and from school, so they could continue. Luckily the work schedule flexed for it.
