We chose this school for the dual language program. My daughter is in kindergarten and has a wonderful teacher and very involved with teaching the class in Spanish. The dual language parent nights that the school offers are great and I am excited that she is in the program. The principal is great and involved.
The principal of Eastwood is the 2nd longest termed principal in the Hillsboro school district. This is Eastwood's #1 problem. They have no where else to put her so they stuck her at Eastwood. She is unprofessional, disrespectful and incompetent. She is hardly ever at the school, and does not attend most meetings. There is no forum or opportunity to learn or discuss matters affecting Eastwood. We need a strong leader to support our teachers. The office staff is openly negative and gossipy in front of guests and parents. Eastwood grades and state test scores say it all. Eastwood needs serious help and a leader and teachers that want it to succeed. We are crossing our fingers that our transfer goes through!
My first daughter finished Kindergarten last year and had such a fabulous experience that she has fallen in love with school. Which at this age is all you can hope for right? My second daughter will be starting at Eastwood this year and is so excited. So far we have enjoyed the school, the teachers and the other staff. I look forward to continuing on this adventure with Eastwood.
I have two kids attending Eastwood. Most of the teachers are great but the swap around a little to much. The principal is unprofessional does not care enough about the students to attend meetings that request her presence and the office staff is rude and hard to work with. Any help that my children have received has taken a huge battle with the school because the administration has no care for the children as individuals. You definitely get the feeling that your children do not matter to the principal as much as the money they get for them filling a seat. If it wasn't for the amazing Special Education staff we would have been gone a year ago. I don't understand how so many have complained about the principal but yet she is still there
Both of my children went all the way through Eastwood. I see the ratings aren't very high, and I don't know why. All of my kids' teachers have really cared about the children personally, and the staff is excellent. They are learning and having fun, and making friends. If I had another child, I'd gladly send him through Eastwood.
I volunteer at the school and have found it to be a very warm and encouraging environment. The staff are wonderful and are very concerned with the 'best interest' of all the children. The principal is amazing and always welcoming. I have truly enjoyed the time my children have spent at Eastwood.
I have 3 children who attend Eastwood and have found the expeience to great. The teachers and office staff are welcoming and very happy. The attention my children recieved borders on the amazing knowing that the teachers are stretched as thin as they are. The only downside to the school is the PTA. They don't seem to have the school or the childrens needs in the forefront. Special thanks to the Principal - she is wonderful!
I have volunteered at the school, am not treated respectfully by teachers, my private concerns for my children's education is shared and ridiculed with other parent helpers. The comfort level for volunteering at the school is zero. An unfortunate situation by far. I appreciate the district response for situations that are not able to be addressed at the school level, as often times staff is overwhelmed.
I am sad to see all of the negativity that s circulated around this school. The teachers at Eastwood are highly qualified, competent people who put in far more hours than required. Despite this, parents often question their practices and go straight to the principal (the same principal that they claim is unfair and doesn t support them) to voice their distaste in how their children are being taught. These are the same parents who send out e-mails bad mouthing the principal, or go to the district office in order to get the results that they want. What these people don t realize is that they are making things harder for everyone at Eastwood each and every time they start this high school nonsense. I think that what this school really needs are parents who are willing to support the students and staff instead of complaining whenever they don t get their way.
The school and district have let me down this year. I had high hopes that they were really doing everything they could to ensure our childrens' ability to learn and prosper in light of all the boundary changes and staff changes. However, there is no support for parents of this school either by the staff, teachers, or district if you have a problem. In addition, thanks to the boundary change - no transfers! Isn't that great...a crummy school and no where to go all because they don't have enough teachers! Thanks a lot.
I feel that the teachers are really what make this school exceptional. All of the teachers are caring and kind and they challenge students to strive for excellence. I am proud to be the current PTA Vice President. As a parent, I feel that it is important to show your children by example that good things happen when you donate your time to be involved. Don t base your feelings on this school by the PTA. The PTA isn t teaching your students. We have provided classroom funding for things such as incubators, drying racks, books for classes, assemblies like Reptile Man, and Pioneer Living, provide funds for field trips and outdoor school, whiteboards and funding for a sound system for the gym. If you choose to send your kids to this school, do it because of the exceptional rating it has and because of the history of fantastic teachers.
I have been pleased with Eastwood teachers, but the principal really lacks in leadership and professionalism that Principal should have. The office staff is eqally nice and rude, it just makes visiting Eastwood confusing.
My husband and I have been extremely impressed with the outstanding program that Eastwood has. It has received an Exceptional rate by the state which is extremely rare statewide. They also have programs to help students --after school sports, BLAST an after school program thjat incorporates homework assistance, activities, art/crafts, and service learning. The leadership demonstrated by the staff and principal should be commended. We have found in our experience the principal, Mrs. Monahan to be extremely competent and under her leadership the school has blossomed. The teachers and staff are warm and welcome you when you are in the building. The staff from what I have heard collects their own money to purchase Thanksgiving meals for some high need families. If all schools in our state could be like Eastwood, with leadership like this principal in striving for excellence , staff reaching for the best, our children would rate #1.
I feel that this school is trying to be a good school but not quite making it. I currently have 3 children attending here. I have not been satisfied with the academic expectations of the school. I feel they are introduced to reading, writing and mathmatics and then as parents we are required to teach them and make sure they understand it before the class moves on. All of my childrens scores are low to average and the teachers don't really think any thing of it. Is this just the norm?
The fundraiser money is managed by the PTA & we have a lot of fun activities!
I am very proud to be associated with Eastwood! The kids are wonderful, even the ones who get into trouble. They soon find out that the staff is there to help them & I have witnessed forst hand a change for the better in their behavior!
Eastwood is awful, the teachers are decent however the principal has no idea how to run a school smoothly. Money the school receives for fundraisers etc. is not fairly disbursed, wether it is the PTA or the school system who decides how the money is disbursed it is sad to see the children still suffering with no programs or extra carricular activities. In the two years my child was a student this school ruined my child's outlook and my own on school, thankfully her new school has got our happy outlook back. The principal is very unprofessional and near impossible to speak with. This school seems to have forgotten that they are teaching future leaders and just treat their professions like they are just there for the paycheck. Eastwood has a huge chance of being a successful school if they would remove the principal. Parents are rarely welcome at this school.
First of all I want to say that the teachers at Eastwood are awesome. The principal shouldn't be there. Issues that are extremely serious are completely ignored. We have kids that loved to go to school and no longer want to. The office staff has improved over the last couple of years, but no improvement from the principal.
We have our third child working through Eastwood but won't be sending our fourth there. The teachers are committed and do an excellent job but the principal and office staff are extremely unprofessional and difficult to communicate with. Overall, the school is struggling with too many kids and not enough overall management/support.
I would have to say My Family & I love the Teachers at Eastwood. All of my kids are there & the teachers are Friendly & accessible to the parents.
