Our family has regretted purchasing a home in this neighborhood. We have a 7th grade daughter who attends south meadows. It is our observation that this school lacks structure in homework policies. Far less homework than the Beaverton district. The student behavior and social environment of this school reflects poorly on the community. So i'll give the staff a break on this category it's not their fault. Our family is strongly considering selling the home and getting back to Beaverton as soon as possible. Unfortunately this takes time but our daughter only gets one shot at life and she will probably be in hill high by the time we can relocate. The entire school year has been a shock to us.
I have heard that the environment has improved over the last two years. However it still appears to have had a large impact on our students view of the social status of this school. Our student has seen more negative situations at this school in 1 year than all of the first 6 years 1-6th combined.
Our student has come from the Beaverton Middle School program and we discovered that south meadows had lacked any challenging homework policies. To summarize, South Meadows appeared too busy focusing on other unregulated programs that catered to minorities. Rather than challenging the students with traditional classroom teaching and consistent homework. This school appears to skirt the system to make things easier for their students. There is a big difference coming from the Beaverton School District.
April, 2016: This is an unbelievably rude, wild, and undisciplined school. The teachers tolerate way too much and seem oblivious to how much student character is suffering because they do not reinforce basic respect and cannot manage the word "no." The kids run that place and know it.
Since the other reviews are out of date, as an update, smms is still a horrible school. The teachers try to help their students learn, but the students themselves are not motivated. Leadership and administration is very poor, and fights break out on a daily basis. My daughter was never challenged at the school, and felt unprepared for high school, when we transferred out of the feeder. Please south meadows... institute some better leadership and teaching so the students are motivated to learn and prepare for high school!
