There are some excellent, experienced teachers here but I have my doubts about the principal. I do not feel he is in touch with the students or parents. There appears to be a conscious effort to minimize parental involvement at this critical period of a student's development. The expectations seems to be that students can immediately transition from the handholding of elementary school to complete responsibility for everything without any assistance from parents or training from the teachers and schools. Communications with parents is almost non-existent. The ParentVue system is good for alerting parents to what is going on with assignments. However, I have caught 3 mistakes by teachers in entering my child's grade in the last month, which seems to be due to too little training on the system for the teachers. It is clear they only got general training and are struggling to understand how to properly record student work in the system. Yet, your student's report card is taken from this system. The school could be so much more with proper training on the grade system and partnering with the parents. Good students should be able to succeed in spite of it. Poor students not so much.
Evergreen is a great middle school. Middle school is the toughest time for most adolescents, it is a major transition in life. This school covers 7 & 8 grade only. I like that 6th graders are kept in the elementary level. The counselors and staff here do an excellent job of being involved and available for kids and parents. I like the variety of programs and extra curricular activities. Evergreen used to be the top performing middle school in Hillsboro, it has slid "on paper" since the bounary change brought in more ESL and low income students. When looking at the test numbers you need to disect which group your student falls in. For my kids, the high learners, Evergreen excels. Their TAG and Leadership programs have been very beneficial.
I like this schooll a lot. Most of the teacher make work fun and some teachers dont care if your a few munite late for classe . They say if your late for class they would give you a 'talent trackor ' but its nothing big.
I think that Evergreen is a great school! There is alot of teacher involvement with the students and the parents. Evergreen also provides great opportunities for kids who want to graduate. I think that this school rocks!
Our son would never have graduated if it weren't for the one on one support of the staff and principal at Evergreen This was when Mr Moshinsky and Carol Loghner were there. Where ever they are things will go well.
