My daughter is a first grader at May Street and so far we have had nothing but great experiences with her teachers, the Principal, the support staff, etc. Super involved Parent Teacher Organization is a big plus too.

May Street Elementary has been a top notch school for my 1st Grade daughter. I've never felt such cohesiveness between the faculty and students. The faculty works hard to make sure each child is challenged, but has fun learning. In addition to the faculty, it is the parents who put in the effort to make this school so special. Everyday I see parents volunteering, eating lunch with their kids and helping whenever they can. Parent involvement is priceless especially in a public school where funds and resources are scarce. Lastly, May St. makes sure that not only the kids are challenged academically, but also places an importance on arts and physical education. I feel very lucky that my daughter is going to such a wonderful school.

All of the teachers and facult are the greatest they will alwaysgo out of there way to make sure that they are there for the students but also for the parents if there is any kind of needed help, I have so many brags that I could type and type for days on this subject in all the areas that the Hood River school Dist has helped my children and me.

The entire staff, from the classroom teachers, student aids, clerical, principal, kitchen workers, and even the maintence team have the best 'can do' attitude and strive to learn about each and every student to provide the best and most responsive curriculum for all students to acheive positive results and progress. Not only in the student's academic arena but as individuals in a cohesive society.

This is an outstanding school with wonderful teachers in a community where people really care. They are very enthusiastic about the arts as well.

About the tests

In 2009-2010 Oregon used the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 7 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 10 in science. The OAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oregon. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
