A great small town school with dedicated teaachers

The required, core curriculum is totally lacking. In his four years at LHS my son was never required to study or read books of any of the great autors or ppoets. No U.S. or world history or geography is required. Science and math are required at a very minimal level. Altogether, a very poor quality of education with very lenient grading standards.

Although there are several excellent teachers there, I have seen generally high teacher apathy. Grading also appears to be extremely lenient. This school is not challenging its students and the state assessments show it.

About the tests

In 2009-2010 Oregon used the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math; in grades 4, 7 and 10 in writing; and in grades 5, 8 and 10 in science. The OAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Oregon. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
